Initially impressed!

This is my first time using this brand, although I checked online and read customer reviews that were mostly favorable to their other products and thought I would give it a shot. I’m pleased to say that the bottle arrived well secured, with both an outer plastic safety guard and a glued-on safety cap that was the right amount of challenge to open. The pill sizes are quite small and easily swallowed, and the supplement facts are clearly displayed. St. John’s Wort has a lot of scientific research behind it for its mood regulation, help with moderate depression or general ennui, menopausal and PMS symptoms, as well as some mild anxiety. That being said, there are MANY prescription and OTC drugs that are contraindicated (meaning, don’t take them with this!) that you should be aware of and look out for. Because of how St. John’s Wort works, it can break down and clear other medications far too quickly in the body, so I would definitely check with your doctor before taking this. Several contraindicated drugs include serotonergic drugs (SSRIs, MAOIs, TCAs, etc.), immunosuppressants, anticoagulants, CONTRACEPTIVES!!!, antiretrovirals, cardiac medications, antiseizure, as well medications for some psychological disorders and even sunlight sensitivity! So please, be careful and always consult with your doctor. Why I didn’t give this 5 stars is because: 1) This doesn’t list a standardized percentage of hypericin, making it difficult to replicate scientific studies, and 2) The dosage seems too insufficient for me, since 300 mg “once daily” is half, or even a third, of the target dosages used in key clinical studies I’ve read. (PS – I’m not a medical professional, I’m just self-educated enough to be dangerous. Please look into everything yourself with the help of your GP.)

Reasonably Good Option

The only thing that prevents it from attaining excellence is that they add Magnesium Stearate, which is just a filler to make processing easier, however it is certainly possible to find options without this, so it isn’t necessary. Also people say that it negatively affects us in different ways, especially the gut biome.But besides that, St. John’s Wort is known to help with mood support, when feeling down and somewhat depressed. But it takes 4-6 weeks before a most people notice a difference.There are some important things you should be aware of before buying this is:1: St. John’s Wort is notorious for interacting with prescription medications. It can significantly decrease the effectiveness of blood thinners, antidepressants (risk of serotonin syndrome), and various other drugs by speeding up how the liver processes them.2: St. John’s Wort contains active compounds like hypericin, which are phototoxic, which can significantly increase your skin’s and eyes’ sensitivity to ultraviolet (UV) light (a condition called photosensitivity). So in plain mans terms it means you will sunburn much faster and it might be more uncomfortable for you eyes on bright days.To me St. John’s Wort is a wintertime herb, when the sun isn’t as strong nor for as long in the sky.All in all, this is one of the better choices, but there are still better ones than this, if you take the time to look for them.
