After 6 iron supplements for 2.5 yr old, we have a winner!
OK, so we have been through 6 different iron supplements for my 2.5 year old plus all the dietary tricks to get his iron up. I have always been anemic (borderline to very low) and Thalassemia runs in our family. My son was diagnosed anemic when he was about 2ish. The pediatrician immediately prescribed iron drops and sent us on our way…have you ever tasted iron drops? GROSS! Anyway, we started ramping up the broccoli, the spinach, lowering dairy intake, cooking with the cast iron pan, to no avail. Then we started trying all the various iron gummies on the market, but he hated all of them, even though they were EXACTLY like his mutli-vitamin that he takes without fail every day.I kept reading the reviews about Renzo’s but my husband was like “A chewable? He’ll never eat it” So, I passed on all the chewable/melting non-gummy tablets. Fast forward to our 4th Dr.’s visit this year and a follow up blood check and his iron is still low. Back to Amazon and Renzo’s kept popping up as highly rated and the best. So I just decided, what do I have to lose? And with a click, Renzo’s was on the way to our house.It arrived last night and I was mentally prepping myself for a failure. My son and I were opening our Amazon box, which also contained various other items and he picked up the iron supplements and was like “What are these?” I told him those are your new vitamins, do you want to try one? Of course the answer is always “Yes” to his vitamins. I opened the container and the little pills spilled out a bit when I took the cotton out. He quickly grabbed one and popped it in his mouth. I was waiting for the “Yuck, here mamma, you take it”. But it didn’t happen…instead his reply was “YUM, it tastes good!” I said these are orange flavored. Queue the sprinting through the house and then telling dad when he got home how yummy they were and that he wants to eat more. (Don’t worry, they are locked high up in a cabinet!)Granted we are only on day 1, but it’s already 100% more successful than all the other vitamins because he actually chewed and swallowed this one. I’ll update if for some reason it takes a turn for the worse on day 2, but I don’t think that’s going to be the case. I’m just so relieved that we found something that he will actually take. Hoping to see positive iron test results in a couple of months. I will try to remember to update then (around the end of March 2020). Thanks Renzo!

I was pleasantly surprised that our boys didn’t mind taking these at all. They would even help remind me to give them to them at night. However, my son’s follow up lab work did not show any improvement in his ferritin. Not sure if that’s because of the vitamin or something else – we’re now trying prescription iron.

Toddler eats it straight 👌. I tried it, just tastes like powder orange juice or those vit c packets you take when you’re sick. My 2 year old takes it straight. But I’ve only given it 2x so far so we shall see. He does enjoy taking medicine tho lol. I have dissolved it in juice, doesn’t really affect the taste but if you let it sit powder does sink to the bottom. My kid plays with his juice/takes forever to finish it so dissolving didn’t work for me. I just give it every other day to every two days cuz my toddler is on a meat strike right now and I noticed an increase in biting cardboard and board books.bes also obsessed with ice. Idk if it’s Pica or teething but I decided to just give this spaced out just in case he’s a bit low on iron. I do not recommend giving this every day without doctors ok. Too much iron can cause serious side effects so be careful.
