One of D.A.D’s Best
Excellent CD from these guys. I had bought No Fuel Left For The Pilgrims on cassette many years ago. I had forgotten about this band over the years. I looked them up on Amazon and found this CD. The reviews were good, so I bought it. I’m glad I did. One of their best in my opinion. I would say it’s right there with No Fuel as their two best Cd’s. Buy this one, you will like it.

Great set with only a few minor flaws
This review is more for the box/set itself than the actual music – there are more than enough reviews on here for the band’s individual albums.All right, I admit it. Despite being a die-hard fan of classic hard rock/metal my whole life, I only learned about DAD about a year ago. Still, over these past few months, my curiosity has continued to grow. When an opportunity came up to get the band’s box set, the aptly-named “Overmuch Box”, for a good price, I jumped at the chance (you can actually get it pretty cheap from some of the independent sellers on here.)DAD (formerly Disneyland After Dark) is a Danish band who has had a very diverse history. They started off as a sort of bizarre cowpunk/new wave hybrid, before evolving into a more straightforward hard rock band in the late 80s/early 90s that achieved some moderate mainstream success. Following their best known period, the group faded into obscurity but has continued to release albums on a smaller, more limited scale. Despite this, the band has released no shortage of excellent music, and even continues to do so to this day.What is the Overmuch Box? Essentially, this is the band compiling all of their material into one small, convenient package. The box contains all of the band’s studio albums released from 1986-2009: Call of the Wild, DAD Draws a Circle, No Fuel Left for the Pilgrims, Riskin’ It All, Helpyourselfish, Simpatico, Everything Glows, Soft Dogs, Scare Yourself, and Monster Philosophy (note that they have since released another studio album, which is obviously not included here.) Furthermore, there are 2 additional discs in the package. The first disc contains the band’s debut EP, Standin’ on the Never Never, not previously available on CD (and I believe it can not be gotten on CD outside of this package.) The final disc is Behind the Seen, a collection of rare tracks from the band (again, material that I believe is unavailable on CD outside of this set.) Topping off the package is a big booklet containing a ton of information on the band, as well as some rare pictures. Essentially, this is a DAD fan’s dream come true.Sadly, I can not quite give the package a perfect score. The first and biggest flaw of this collection is the omission of the band’s live material, namely the Osaka After Dark EP. The other problem is that each album is on its own disc – in other words, this is a 12-disc set. It could have been a cheaper, slimmer set if they had combined albums (it would have been possible to do 2 albums on a single CD in multiple cases – the first disc with the debut EP only has 10 minutes worth of music on the entire disc!) Seriously, would it have killed them to include the Osaka After Dark EP as bonus tracks on the No Fuel Left for the Pilgrims disc?Aside from the omission of Osaka After Dark, this is a fantastic set, and it is a quick, easy way to get nearly all of DAD’s material in one convenient set – after all, their stuff is next to impossible to find in America. But make sure you don’t forget to get the Osaka After Dark EP (Amazon has it available as a download for relatively cheap.)This box set comes HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Sehr schön gemachte Werkschau
DAD (oder Disneyland After Dark, wie sie sich ursprünglich nannten, das dann aber nicht mehr durften, da der Mickey-Mouse-Konzern das nicht gern sah) haben schon zu Beginn ihrer Karriere einen ganz eigenen Sound kreiert, der eine Mischung aus Punk, (Hard-)Rock, Country und Alternative ist, wobei im Laufe der Zeit mal das eine, mal das andere Element stärker hervortrat. Als Dänen haben sie hier in Deutschland ein Stück weit einen Exotenstatus gehabt (zumal Ende der 80er-Jahre, als skandinavische Rockmusik hier noch nicht wirklich geläufig war), ich selbst habe die Band auf einer Dänemarkreise auf dem Tape von ein paar Dänen kennengelernt an einem lustigen Abend, den wir zusammen verbrachten.Nun legt die Truppe eine Werkschau ihrer bisherigen zehn Alben plus der ersten Maxi-Single plus einer Bonus-CD mit B-Seiten, Demos, Liveversionen (also dem üblichen raren Zeug) vor (alles remastert). Ich hatte zwar schon ein paar CDs der Band, hab mir die Box aber trotzdem zugelegt, zumal der Preis ja nun auch sehr günstig ist für die Menge an Musik, die man erhält.Die Alben kommen ohne Bonustracks aus (klar, dafür gibt es ja auch die Bonus-CD in der Box) und sind in Papphüllen verpackt, wobei die Silberlinge jeweils noch mal in einer Extrapapphülle stecken, die so wirkt, als sei sie dem LP-Design nachempfunden (kann ich nicht beurteilen, da ich selbst nur CDs von der Band hab). Das ist schon mal sehr schön und wirkt wertiger, als wenn die CDs einfach so in Papphüllen stecken. Die Box ist dadurch angenehm kompakt von der Größe her. Zudem findet sich noch ein wirklich dickes Booklet dabei mit Linernotes und Fotos zu jedem Album und allen Texten (gestaltet wie in den Original-Booklets) auf deutlich über 100 Seiten – sehr schön aufgemacht, wie ich finde!Fazit: Das ist alles andere als eine billige Masche, um sein altes Zeug noch mal unters Volk zu bringen, sondern eine sehr schön und wertig aufgemachte Box, die sowohl für Fans der Band, die noch nicht alle Alben besitzen, als auch für DAD-Neulinge hervorragend geeignet ist. Unbedingte Kaufempfehlung!

D-A-D awesomeness!
This is for any big fan of the band. I first heard of them in the late 1980s, when a local radio station played “Sleeping My Day Away”, and “Rim of Hell”. I snatched up the “No Fuel” cassette (yes, cassette) and played the hell out of it – loved it, beginning to end.Then “Riskin’ It All” came out a few years later. Not as strong, but still good. Then nothing in the states….POOF! they were gone. I always wondered what happened to the band.About 7 years ago I obtained at cd version of “No Fuel” and was happy, but fast forward to earlier this year…I googled the band, wondered what ever happened to them. To my surprise I found they were alive and well, and still cranking out great music! I found numerous videos on YouTube, then learned of this box set. I really like the music I heard that they had put out since “Riskin’ It All” came out.This box set covers all their releases (except their latest, self titled release) remastered, and also includes a b-sides & rarities disk. It all sounds great and has brought me up-to-date with this talented, underrated band. They should’ve been huge in the states – they still could be. Their music is well constructed, with a great sense of European humor thrown in to the lyrics for good measure. I hope someday they come back across the water to play in Northern America. I will buy a ticket!**Update! They came over to the US in Spring of 2013 to play SXSW and a handful of other shows. I got to see two of their performances in Austin during SXSW. It was amazing! They sounded great, and I got to meet them – nice bunch of guys. Hope they come back soon!

Get your D.A.D fix with this box
I haven’t had a chance to listen to all the cd’s in here but what I have listened to is fantastic. I have some of the cd’s already but I wanted the box set as there were still a few albums I haven’t got in it. Mainly their early stuff prior to No Fuel Left for the Pilgrims.The presentation of the box is really well thought out, I love the art work on it. How they managed to fit 25 years worth in a box the half the size of a decent book is nothing short of marketing genius. 12 Albums and a awesome booklet detailing their history (which I’m yet to read thoroughly). There is also lyrics to the songs in the booklet too.This is the sort of box collectors will go for or great for a Christmas present this time of year. Over the years D.A.D’s sound has changed from album to album as they have grown. Each and every one has a different feel for me. Depending on the mood I’m in will decide on what album to listen too. There’s some softer albums like Everything Glows, or No Fuel or something a little meatier like Helpyourselfish or Scare Yourself. Doesn’t matter what mood there is always something to listen to.My absolute favourite though, has to be the most played album and that is Everything Glows and after that the album that brought them to Australia is No Fuel Left For the Pilgrims (back in the day when cassette tapes were around, I wish I still had the stickers that came with it).Do yourself a favour….GET IT! You Won’t Regret it!

Best 1980s hair band you may have never heard of
Discovered this band just in 2022 and have liked them more and more with each listen. The “Riskin’ It All” album (I got the digital version) was about 5 years too late to make them a big name in the U.S., but if you’re a fan of that era, this band with the clever lyrics is awesome. Their style is described as “cowpunk,” but this album has real blues as well as ’80s rock combined with some of the funniest lyrics you’ll ever hear. But it’s not all fun and games as they have some serious songs as well, including “Grow or Pay” that I can’t get enough of. They’re still playing live shows today and sounding nearly the same. If you like this music time period, this album should be in your collection.
