Magnesium oxide + nutritional yeast

This is a blend of magnesium oxide plus nutritional yeast. Strath is very well known for their herbal yeast supplements, and that, plus the fact that it’s made in Switzerland make me confident in the quality. That being said, the downside of this product is that it uses magnesium oxide. Magnesium oxide is basically the lowest grade of magnesium with the poorest bioavailability. Additionally, each 4 tablet serving only provides around 50% of your daily value of magnesium.Strath feeds their nutritional yeast a range of herbs such as lemon balm, elderflower, sage, and lavender. To be honest, I don’t really know how much this impacts the nutritional value of nutritional yeast, but it does make this product sound healthier. Strath has supposedly published research on the efficacy of their herbal yeast postbiotic, and it’s shown benefits for things like energy levels, digestion, and more.Overall – it’s an interesting product, but it’s disappointing that it contains only a low dose of magnesium oxide instead of a higher quality form. I haven’t noticed any major benefits yet since I started taking it.

Whole food supplement? I think not

This Strath Gut health with magnesium supplement calls itself a ‘Superfood – 61 trace nutrients’ on the label. They don’t say what their definition of superfood is. I say superfood is nutrient-dense food that provide a high concentration of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and other beneficial compounds, like berries, avacados, salmon, leafy greens, etc. NONE of those are in this product.This Strath Gut health with magnesium supplement also calls itself a ‘whole food supplement’ on the label.It contains corn starch. Cornstarch is a refined carbohydrate, meaning it is highly processed and stripped of most nutrients from the corn kernel, leaving primarily starch behind, making it NOT a whole food.It contains microcrystalline cellulose, which is refined wood pulp and is used as a texturizer, an anti-caking agent, a fat substitute, an emulsifier, an extender, a thickening agent and a bulking agent in food production. It may cause loose bowel movements and or have a laxative effect. A 2021 study found that long-term consumption of cellulose gum can alter levels of beneficial bacteria and nutrients in the gut. This supports previous animal study findings that suggest prolonged consumption of cellulose gum may promote chronic inflammatory conditions, including colitis, metabolic syndrome, and colon cancer. It serves no purpose to the consumer in a supplement. NONE. It is definitely NOT a whole food.It contains silicone dioxide, which is a natural chemical mix of silicon and oxygen that has uses in many food products as an anticaking agent. In a supplement, it is of no benefit to the consumer. When ingested in large amounts, it makes it harder for the body to absorb it. In return makes it harder for your body to absorb the other nutrients you need such as fats, minerals, and vitamins. So, taking supplements with this ingredient is most likely counter productive. It is definitely NOT a whole food.There is not one ingredient in this ‘whole food supplement’ that is a whole food. Perhaps they mean this supplements a whole food diet? I say that jokingly. Whole food diets rarely need supplementing, and if they do, neither corn starch, microcrystalline cellulose, nor silicone dioxide provide anything a human needs.The herbal yeast blend may be beneficial to the gut, but according to what the microcrystalline cellulose and silicone dioxide may do in the gut, you’d need the herbal yeast blend just to counteract that.Nutritional yeast can help the gut. It’s available by itself, in flakes, with no ‘secret’ ‘proprietary blend’ that keeps the consumer in the dark about what their taking. I believe it would be a MUCH healthier, cleaner, and less expensive alternative to this filler filled NON whole food tablet.

Quality of Strath – Fermented herbal yeast providing a variety of valuable natural nutrients

I’ve heard about the brand Strath, although this is the first time trying one of their many products. The company Bio-Strath manufactures their products in Zurich, Switzerland and has been providing Strath, the OG Postbiotic, since 1961. I ordered and started taking this particular product Strath with Magnesium to support my health and well-being. This formulation provides comprehensive digestive support. Enriched with prebiotic and postbiotic properties, these tablets enhance nutrient absorption, promoting a healthy gut environment. This product is comprised of pure & natural ingredients with yeast containing 11 vitamins, 19 minerals and trace elements, 20 amino acids and 11 important building substances. Fermented herbal yeast contains a variety of valuable nutrients that occur in a biological balance. Postbiotics are now being shown to have a wide range of health benefits through improved gut health. With this formula’s addition of Magnesium, you get added support for your bone, muscle, and nervous system. It’s good to know that this is free from animal-derived ingredients, lactose, sugar and gluten. For adults, I am taking the suggestion to take 2 easy to swallow tablets 3 times a day with water before meals. All in all, if you are like me concerned about supporting your digestive, immune and overall health with a quality supplement, then you should consider this Strath product and give it a try.
