Pricey but works for us
First, we’ve trusted Solgar products and have used for years. This combined with Orthomega triglyceride capsules 820 have really helped husband and myself with arthritis pain and inflammation. Both are large capsules and kind of hard to swallow; just get your mouth wet and take a gulp of water, throw the pill in toward the back of the mouth, add more water, and swallow.

Curcumin is extracted from turmeric but like many valuable natural substances, it isn’t absorbed readily into the body. So researchers have come up with substances that, when added to the poorly absorbed curcumin, supposedly results in much improved absorption. Those proprietary formulas get patented so expect to pay more. In the case of turmeric/curcumin, many formulas add black pepper extract for absorbtion. Solgar, a health supplements company that’s been around since 1947 makes this supposedly high absorption curcumin extract by surrounding and encapsulating the 95% curcumin extract with “microscopic ‘water-loving’ spheres called micelles” so in this case, the method used to enhance absorption is different from the black pepper extract additive approach. So is it better at relieving inflammation, the primary use for curcumin as I understand it? I would say at the least it’s better than formulas labelled turmeric with black pepper extract because I was taking that type for a long time and then arthritis flared up so I began looking for better formulas and this Solgar curcumin has done a pretty good job considering that I’m still on the pharmaceutical drug that I believe caused the arthritic flareup. Bottom line: if you need serious relief from painful inflammation and want to do it naturally, you’re more likely to have success with a high absorption curcumin like this one. You will have to pay more because of the proprietary formulas. But this one isn’t too exorbitant. A single capsule daily compared to most others two.

I think it works, HOWEVER…
For starters, I’m a licensed medical practitioner. I don’t do quackery. I am also older with arthritis and kidney issues, so NSAIDS are no longer my first line help for joint pain. I had success with turmeric from other brands. I prefer Solgar because they typically manufacture their own products. Not so with this one. But I figured it’s still their label and reputation on the line, so I tried it. Seems to work. HOWEVER…my wife gets idiopathic angioedema. She will start a 7 day prednisone taper if it’s bad enough. Hates taking it. She recently had a flare that got worse after taking ibuprofen for a headache associated with the antihistamines. She takes another brand of turmeric but ran out. She tried this product and had significant improvement in her swelling within about 4 hours. Again, seems to work, maybe better than some others.

A long history with Full Spectrum Curcumin
Years ago, after suffering from hip and lower back pain that only was growing worse, I began researching for a solution. After trying many different supplements, creams, etc. as well as doing physical therapy, I finally discovered Solgar FS Curcumin. This is an EXCEPTIONAL product that has helped tremendously in keeping pain under control. After beginning a regimen of this supplement for just a few days, I was able to stand up, sit down as well as exercise without pain. Recently I tried another product that had great promise in controlling pain, but it failed exponentially. Bottom line, pain is under control and I won’t be going back!
