Why not have them on hand, just in case.
Maybe I’m getting a little paranoid, but it’s probably inevitable that some of us in medium to large sized cities will face some kind of radiation exposure in our lifetimes. Whether it’s by accident or intentional, it could happen anytime and with the likelihood of increased use of nuclear energy in the future, it could be an ever-present threat in our lives. I know others who have decided to take the simple step of obtaining potassium iodide KI tablet to have on hand, just in case. If they’re ever needed, we should be advised by civil authorities to take them if we have them. If that time ever comes, it will be a nice feeling to know that I was pro-active in obtaining this bottle and been able to protect my family in this small way. Hopefully, we’ll never need them.

I got this for our emergency kit. They are useful to have and are often given to you for free if you live within close proximity of a nuclear reactor. These are well packed tablets and upon opening, there were no issues.In the reviews, there may be some confusion. The labeling says the SERVING SIZE is TWO tablets and that you will get 130mg PER SERVING. This means that each tablet is 65mg. Adults near reactor sites are typically advised to take 130mg per day in the event of an emergency.If you have any issues about how to take these, then you should seek advice from your doctor.

These potassium iodide pills are a valuable addition to any emergency supply kit. They are intended for radiological emergencies only, such as nuclear power plant accidents, radioactive spills, or nuclear detonations where you might be exposed downwind. They work by flooding your thyroid gland with harmless potassium iodide and thereby preventing uptake of radioactive iodine which can cause damage to the thyroid. This kind of protection is much more important for younger people than for older folks because the thyroid gland is still growing at younger ages. I read many of the other reviews and agree with almost all of it. There was some confusion on the dose, which is 130 MG per day for adults. These are 65 MG tablets, so two for adults, and only one for older children. Remember that you can cut the tablets for smaller children. Also the bottle that I received has an expiration date of 12/27, which is not 10 years. However, in a nuclear emergency I would probably use them anyway. In these uncertain times, it’s better to have them and not need them, than to need them and not have them. I’m rating these at 4 stars mostly for the expiration date discrepancy.

Misleading description – expires less than 3 years from purchase date
I opted to purchase these particular potassium iodide tablets because they are advertised to have a 10 year shelf life. The product arrived on 12/16/24 and has an expiration date of 10/27 (less than 3 years from the date of purchase). I’m stuck with them because this product is ineligible for return. Hopefully this review helps you avoid the same mistake.

An item no one ever wants to use, but can save your life if you have it and will keep a fresh supply in the car house and my bike out bag. Will replace at expiration date religiously. Especially in the world that we live in today.

I live near a nuclear power plant, so it is important that I have potassium iodide on hand in the case of an emergency at the plant. This supplement seems to be a quality one, made in the USA. The serving size for this product is 2 tablets, which is equal to 130 mg, the maximum recommended dosage by the CDC. Therefore, each pill is equal to 65 mg of potassium iodide. If ever you need to take this supplement, please refer to the CDC’s guidelines, as there are many rules involved. Certain age groups should take less of this product than others. Also, it is not recommended for those over 40, as their risk of experiencing thyroid problems is less than those under 40 whose cells are still rapidly multiplying. Those over 40 may experience more complications taking this pill than not; however, it is recommended in some older groups. The most important thing to note is that this product should never be taken except in a nuclear power plant emergency, so if you purchase, just keep it on hand & hope that you never need it.
