Great Lina
I call it Lina, less confusing for my friends and family.For the cost? WOW. And as far as taste. To me…if you are basing a purchase off of flavor…remember this…this is more or less powdered pond scum. My family and I are organic vegans, and this is a STAPLE!!..My 1yr old loves it in an apple, banana, pear, spinach smoothie. In fact she cant go to bed without it. We all have them for breakfast. ANd I have two throughout the day for snack inbetween meals. Love it. For the cost…best, for the flavor? WOuldnt know..its masked..but makes your shakes a nice DARK green shade…and we all know..the darker the shade of green the more chloraphyll..and the more of the big C you avoid. Have you ever seen Forks over Knives? Food Matters? Food Inc? If not, watch them all.

For a year I’ve beenI making a green smoothie every morning and I started adding Spirulina the second week of January 2013. It’s been two months of the dark green powder now and I believe it has been a great addition to my morning drink. My recipe is as follows: an apple or 4 oz of juice, two stalks of celery, a one inch piece of peeled ginger, half a cucumber, half a peeled lemon, a handful of fresh parsley or cilantro, a peeled banana, a heaping teaspoon of Spirulina and about three or four Kale leaves. The Kale can be any greens but Kale and Spinach are my favorites. I love my morning smoothie and since adding the Spirulina I feel like I have even more energy. I lost 15 lbs the first three months I started the green drink in the morning and more importantly I dropped 58 points off my cholesterol count. I’m looking forward to my next physical to see if the cholesterol has gone down even more.

Very quick delivery, good quality, and reasonable price
I first learned about Spirulina back in 1981 while living in Dallas, Texas. Some of the people at the house I was staying at were taking spirulina by Dr. Christopher Hills. At that time the cost was about $50 a pound. Someone let me try an ounce or two and I was hooked. I even became a distributor for a few years, but mostly just bought it for myself.The last time I bought any was back in early 1992. I got a pound at a Minneapolis health food store and I think the cost at the time was still about $50. It was unbranded bulk powder but seemed to be ok.After thinking about it for some time I decided to start taking it again and despite some questionable reviews and some doubts raised about the origin and quality I decided to try this brand. This is the same stuff I remember from the past and the cost even for the organic offering is less than 50% of what I used to pay.I use it in orange juice, V-8 juice, or in soups or other foods with strong seasoning. Generally the taste which is not very pleasant can easily be hidden, but I would not recommend something like apple juice because the flavor is not as strong. But no matter what you use, I don’t recommend taking large amounts at one time. For me, 1/2 – 1 teaspoon is a good dose. And really, you don’t need to take a lot to get the benefits if you take some every day. Some people just mix it with some water and drink it that way.So what are the benefits? The reason I took it for so long in the past is that it has the effect of making me feel “good”. It’s not so much I can say why, only that I notice it and enjoy a sense of well-being. In reading the other reviews I see that many people say the same thing that that confirms my own experience. It could be the vitamins or the protein, but my personal feeling is that it’s related to the fact that this stuff grows in strong sunlight and captures some of that essence in the form of chlorophyll. As such, I suspect this could be perfect from those that suffer from SADDS. I would like to hear someone make some tests to see if it helps them.Some people have commented that it can be hard to mix and I was concerned about that. So when I got mine I decided to put a couple of ounces of water in a glass and then slowly add 1/2 teaspoon of powder. At first it mixed into the water right a way. It was only when I added it more quickly that it started to float on top. This is normal for a lot of powders. Try to spread it when pouring and then gently swirl the glass so the liquid moves around and after a minute or so you will see it all go into the water. If you move it too hard or use a spoon you are fairly sure to get some lumps which you will want to avoid. If you get lumps, use a blender or just let it sit for a while and stir it some more from time to time. After a while the lumps should dissolve. Sprinkle it slowly and you should have good results.[Update: since writing this review I have started taking it with just water at times. I did a test and found that the taste is REALLY not so bad if you don’t use too much. About a third of a teaspoon in about 6-8 ounces of water has only a mild taste for me. I can down it fairly quickly and generally keep from gagging too badly. :0 Seriously, I don’t gag at all and was shocked at how mild the taste is.]

Wasted money
I have used spirulina over the past 25 years. This tasted right but made me ill each time I used it. Diluting the dosage helped but not completely. I would not buy this again nor would I recommend it.

I’m a health nut so this stuff works for me. Packing although it could be more expensive was not suited for this product. It’s very fine so it’s a mess to dispense and harder to close back up. All else is great
