This supplement contained astaxanthin (an antioxidant) and MCT oil (medium-chain triglycerides from coconut) which improves the bioavailability of fat-soluble astaxanthin. There is some evidence astaxanthin may have mild inhibition of 5-alpha-reductase, the enzyme that converts testosterone to DHT.After using this supplement for a little over 3 weeks I noticed an increased gynecomastia which has reduced after I stopped taking it. It’s effect on me was very similar to other oral 5-a-r inhibitors. This supplement had obvious metabolic activity, it just gave me side effects that I try to personally minimize. This side effect is specific to my metabolism. Your experience may differ.The pill was an average sized gel cap with an appealing color and very easy to swallow.

I have used astaxanthin for quite a while for several reasons. I feel like it an essential part in building back up my compromised immune system, my skin changed quite a bit with menopause (rapidly), and the claim that it helps build collagen (I am assuming that means to help your own body make it again, and I desperately need that – inside and out).Supplements like this, that work, especially from the inside out – or rebuilding something inside, do take time.I am NOT advising this to anyone else, just giving my own experience – and I have a hard time getting nutrients in properly, which is probably why I had to do the following: The previous supplement I had been on, which I also got from Amazon, was a 24 mg dose. It had seemed to work a lot better for me, and I could feel a decline in the benefits (you just know, and skin issues did start changing back as well). I doubled my dose to what I was taking before (again, I AM NOT saying to do this. I know it says 12 mg max potency. Maybe because of my issues 24mg for me is the same as 12 mg for others). This was the ticket for me and things started working again. Skin flare ups calming down – even in the heat, which is an issue for me, and I think may have to do with the skin barrier help? All the other things I like it for are long term things that take time, so I haven’t noticed those changes yet.Anyways, these are small and a nice softgel – most only needing 1. I love that MCT oil was used, making absorption easier. They are very easy to take and swallow with me not having any side effects/digestive issues. The lot # and expiration date are right on the re-sealable bag (one that is actually easy to re-seal!). In hindsight, I probably should have started out at 12mg. It may have taken longer, but I am sure there is good reason for the dose. You don’t know what you don’t know. I believe this is a very good quality astaxanthin supplement and I have no problem recommending it.
