I have a chronic vitamin D deficiency and a lifestyle best described as “pale creature of the night,” so this bottle is less a supplement and more a structural support for my skeleton.Functionality: 5,000 IU in a single capsule, which is the entire point. I’ve done this in shots, drops, gummies, powders, tablets — and I’ve bought bottles that quietly want three pills a day to hit the same dose. One capsule, done, no pill fatigue. My doctor bumped me to a higher dose after a lower-strength brand actually let my levels drop over the winter, and this is exactly that dose. The D3 is cholecalciferol from lichen rather than lanolin — sheep’s wool — which matters if you avoid animal products, and the shell is a vegetable capsule instead of the usual gelatin softgel. Ingredient list is short and boring in the best way: no K2 hitching a ride, which is either a downside or exactly what you wanted if you’re already getting K2 elsewhere and just want to raise the D. Simple, effective, and exactly what I want from a vitamin D supplement
I’ve been taking this Vitamin D3 for a variety of reasons, including supporting bone health, immune function, and making sure I’m getting enough of an important nutrient that can be difficult to get consistently from diet and sunlight alone, especially for those in white collar jobs–it’s one of the most common vitamin/mineral deficiencies in the USA and completely preventable.There’s some solid science behind those uses. Vitamin D helps the body absorb calcium, which is important for maintaining healthy bones, and it also plays roles in normal muscle, nerve, and immune function. D3 (cholecalciferol) is also particularly good at raising and maintaining vitamin D levels in the body.The best compliment I can give this supplement is that I don’t notice any difference between this and other D3 supplements I’ve taken—which is a good thing! Vitamin D isn’t something I expect to feel working; I just want a reliable, convenient way to supplement it with no odor. The price is highly competitive as compared to other brands.The 5,000 IU dose is substantial, so I’d recommend making sure that amount makes sense for your individual needs rather than assuming more is automatically better. For me, though, this has been an easy addition to my routine, and I’m happy with it.

Vital Vegan Vit D Boost!
I understand how vital it is to get enough Vitamin D for optimal health. Most of us don’t get enough time in the Sun as we should so this is one of a handful of supplements I take religiously. A selling point for me was seeing other reviewers who tracked their lab work said that this high-potency dose effectively raised their low vitamin D levels back into a healthy range. I started taking these a couple weeks ago and will see if they keep my Vit D levels in the desirable range when I likewise, go for my annual blood work in the near future.I like that the capsules are small, smooth, and much easier to swallow compared to bulkier pills.And because I strictly avoid animal products, I appreciate that the cholecalciferol in these caps is genuinely vegan-friendly (derived from lichen) and housed in a vegetable capsule and not the typical sheep’s wool, i.e. lanolin, or beef gelatin found in standard softgels.The Nutricost brand has been a go-to for me because I find that it consistently provides a better price per serving compared to alternative specialty vegan brands and so far I have found their products to be effective.I remove one star because the formula does not contain K2 along with the D, though I am not convinced fully that that is a problem. And I have yet to see if it keeps me at the levels I need to be for optimal health, but I hope and expect that these capsules will and if they do, I will add a star.So far, I feel good, both physically and mentally, taking 5,000 IU of Vitamin D about once a week. I experience stable daytime energy levels and hopefully good immune support. I see no reason to go to a more costly boutique vegan formula, when this one is just as likely to get the job done.

Excellent vegan D3 option
These capsules are a small enough size to easily swallow. They are made in the USA using quality, safe ingredients. The only ingredient which had me concerned is Maltodextrin which in high quantities can spike insulin (common in sports drinks and powders) but the amount is so miniscule that it doesn’t have that affect. Based on everything that I can assess, these are quality, effective vitamins and I recommend to anyone looking to boost vitamin d3 levels, vegans and omnivores alike.

Good quality at a good price
I recently discovered I have a Vitamin D deficiency through my primary care doctor, and he had told me to take Vitamin D. My first effort at doing so was with a different brand, at a much lower dose. When I went back to my doctor after the winter months, my Vitamin D levels were even lower than before and my doctor told me I should be taking a much higher dose of Vitamin D.At that point, I started to order Vitamin D3 at the same dose as this Nutricost item (125 mcg, 5000 IU per serving/ 1 capsule). With this brand, I like that I am getting such a high dose of Vitamin D in just one capsule, and that the capsules are small and easy to swallow. I also really like that this D3 comes in capsule form, as opposed to a softgel. I don’t specifically notice any taste associated with these capsules when taken as directed, with water and a meal. This particular bottle of Vitamin D3 is vegan, gluten free, and GMO-free. The Nutricost brand is known for having good quality products and the price is great for what you’re getting.

Vitamin D3 capsules are as expected
The capsules are a decent size and not too big so that they would be difficult to swallow. They aren’t a bad price either for vitamin D in capsule form, though I wouldn’t compare pricing to somewhere like Costco though. The pills are easier to swallow since they aren’t super big. If you swallow them fast then you shouldn’t taste anything like with any other capsule. They are smooth as well so you shouldn’t feel any texture to the pills when taking them. The bottle has an easy screw on and off cap which makes it easy to use. Overall, the quality is comparable to vitamin d you would get from a brand name like Nature made.
