Good product, with some reservations

This is creatine monohydrate with no added ingredients. Once mainly a body builder’s supplement, it’s been found to slow muscle loss in older people if used along with exercise. Also there’s evidence it helps with combating the creeping dementia that comes with age. This is in the scientific literature, so I regard it as true. I’ve been using creatine for a while, not daily, not with resistance training, and I can’t say I’ve seen changes because of the product. It’s harder to notice a slowing of decline than it is to notice improvements, in any case. But I’ll believe the research that says it has benefits for seniors as well as athletes.The Nutrex Research brand is fairly well known and respected. This product is micronized creatine, meaning finer particles that dissolve better in water. I put the recommended dose in a clear glass of water, and stirred for about half a minute. The mixture became cloudy. Much of the creatine did not dissolve, but settled into a fine grit at the bottom. Micronized may not count for much. One can either re-suspend it and drink the cloudy liquid, or put it in a blender with other ingredients for a smoothie. Or, when I let the creatine sit in the liquid for several hours, it dissolved almost completely. Creatine in water seems tasteless to me. I like taking it in smoothies or fruit juice. No problem with digestion, no adverse reactions.So is Nutrex creatine really better than the other brands on Amazon? Or are you just paying more for a recognizable name? Some other brands cost as much, others are cheaper. For instance, Hearthy Foods sells a jar that’s 70% larger, and it costs a dollar less. Pure creatine monohydrate, and everything else sounds the same. Has the GMP logo. I think the Nutrex is a good product, but not an especially good value.One thing that bothers me about Nutrex, and many other supplement makers as well, is that they’re not completely transparent about the source of their product. Nutrex Research corporate headquarters is in Florida, but where is the product made? The container gives no clues. I got Chat to check into the company, which claims everything is made in the USA, under GMP guidelines. Why not put that on the container? Made in the USA can mean the product is weighed out and sealed in containers with a nice label in this country. It doesn’t guarantee where the bulk product is synthesized chemically. I imagine big bulk containers of creatine crossing the ocean and being packaged here. Who knows, and I’d like some clarity.In tiny letters on the Nutrex creatine container, it says not to be used by people under 18 years old. I’m thinking of high school wrestlers and football players. I actually doubt that it would harm a healthy 16 or 17 year old boy, but it’s odd to see this warning on the container, in a place and size where almost no one would notice.So, I think this is a good product for maintaining strength and mental acuity under the right conditions. But high cost compared to the competition, as well as lack of clarity, say 4 stars instead of 5.

Mixes Really Easily

I’ve tried a few different creatine powders over the years and the thing that always annoyed me was the gritty texture that never fully dissolved no matter how much I stirred. The mixability on this one is genuinely better, I’ve been throwing a scoop into my morning coffee and it disappears without leaving a sandy layer at the bottom of the mug which was not my experience with cheaper brands. Taste is a non issue since its unflavored and I honestly can’t detect it in coffee at all. The ingredients are about as clean as it gets, just creatine monohydrate with nothing else added which is exactly what I wanted without paying for a bunch of extras I didn’t ask for. Sixty servings means I’m not reordering every few weeks and at this price the value for the money on a two month supply of third party tested creatine is hard to beat. Strength feels slightly better in the gym but six weeks in I’m still in the window where I’m not ready to make big claims about it.
