Tasty for the cats
One of the first things you’ll notice when you open this container is the strong-ish odor that is supposed to resemble fish. It’s a good tactic, though other food odors can turn a cat onto a product; people assume that cats always eat fish and likely live by a body of water, but cats are desert animals–Egypt, in particular. Any strong smell will lure them to the bowl.The product comes in a large container with a very wide mouth and is properly sealed to prevent tampering. It also comes with a measured scoop, and while they have a suggested serving per cat, I use a lot less for starters to get them used to the taste. Directions are clear on the package. It’s easy to store and doesn’t need refrigeration.I have been using this powder for my general population for my cats the last few days, and so far things seem OK—the cats will eat it in their food and I see no adverse reactions. The first time I sprinkled and mixed some in the cats’ wet food was met with a little negativity, but they may have overcome their trepidation because they were hungry. I’ve had other products where the smell was so overpowering that they couldn’t be convinced to eat anything, and I had to throw out the dishes of food.I think it will take some time before one notices any differences in the cats’ health, but lysine is a water-soluble supplement, which means that it will not build up in the cats’ system and cause likely harm. One of my older vets remarked to me that “lysine kicks a**!!!!!” in that excited tone and vernacular. In particular, she was impressed with lysine supplements because it made a huge difference in the health of her patients who suffered from ocular herpes, which is promising.My point of wanting to try this is general health and well-being. I have a couple of cats who are suffering from dental issues, and while it is not on the label to help fix that issue, it might help overall in the cats’ health. A particular dental/gum disease is called stomatitis, which is very painful and hard/expensive to treat (between $6,000–$9,000 for full mouth extractions) and recovery takes a long time too. Lysine is a natural anti-viral and helps with immune-compromised animals, and my hope is that it will help boost the immune system and reduce the discomfort and possible infections from that one ailment.

Palatability for a Picky CatI have a senior cat who is incredibly picky about his meals, so I was initially very worried that he wouldn’t eat his food with this supplement powder added to it. To my surprise, he absolutely loved it! He completely emptied his bowl and ate all of his food without hesitation, which is a huge win for us.Expected Benefits and EffectivenessHe is currently about 13 years old, and my main goal is to give him a little more daily life, energy, and zest in his step as he ages. While it is still too early to see the full long-term health improvements, the fact that he willingly accepts the taste makes it incredibly easy to incorporate into his daily routine.Texture and ApplicationThe powder itself is very fine and mixes into both dry kibble and wet food effortlessly without leaving a messy residue. The packaging was secure, and it is very easy to measure out the correct serving size.

Seems to help with grass allergies
I have three cats that have issues every time the feed grass fields are cut so I was willing to give this a try for them.All of them approve of the taste! No hesitation at all in eating with it sprinkled on their dry food. I used it the week before and for five days after the cuttings and there was a slight improvement in each of them. The only problem I had was the rest of the colony wanted some too😄They seem much happier this summer so I’m glad to add this supplement to their regimen.

Compared to the biggest brand, this is a lot more of a fine powder, where the bigger brand is more like small crystals. So it mixes in better and sticks to food better.

Smells like chemicals.
I used another lysine brand that was salmon and my cats liked it. This one does not smell like salmon or even any fish. Smells like chemicals. My cats do not like it.

My kitty has the herp and has frequent flareups which cause eye gook. She likely got it as a kitten since we adopted her from a shelter since upper respiratory infections spread easily there and kittens are especially susceptible. The vet has recommended lysine supplementation to reduce flareups, but my kitty is pretty picky about mixing things in her foods and also even picky about lysine treats, making supplementation difficult.The serving for this is pretty large, and if I mix too much in her wet food, she won’t touch it. She will, however, eat a small amount in her wet food, so that’s better than nothing. Also, I leave some kibble out for her to snack on during the day, and if I sprinkle this on the kibble, it also gets consumed. I am not sure it’s helping a lot with her outbreaks, but I figure it’s better than nothing.One thing to note is that the ingredients say this has prebiotic fiber, but it doesn’t specify what type (there’s a lot of prebiotic fiber). Some kitties may respond better to one vs another fiber, so I wish this was more transparent. My kitty likely isn’t getting enough to throw her system off, but for cats who will eat the full dose, some might need it phased in to not cause stomach upset.

My cats enjoyed it but I couldn’t get over the smell. I didn’t notice any difference in them taking it, so can’t speak to if it’s effective or not.My cats loved this stuff and were very excited whenever I opened the container. I had to push them out of the way to add or mix it, they loved it so much. They preferred it mixed with water than just sprinkled on their food.However, I couldn’t get over the smell. It’s so strong, that fish odor lingers if you use it wet or dry. I tried using less, doing half scoops, but still made the room stink. I was very glad to finish it and be done, but the cats are missing it.If you’re not bothered by strong fishy smells, give it go. Your kitties will probably love it.
