As I get older, I want to make sure I’m doing the most I can to support my eye health. Lutein and Zeaxanthin are a powerful combination to help support my eyes. So when I saw that NutureWise had added a lutein & zeaxanthin supplement to their lineup, I was excited to give it a try. These are cute little gel tabs, the color and shape of tiny, miniature-sized footballs that are about the same size as a single rice-crispy.The lutein is a patented type called FloraGLO. I wasn’t familiar with it, so I did a bit of reading. FloraGLO is a brand of natural lutein derived from marigold flowers by Kemin Industries. It’s a form of lutein. Clinically standardized for high bioavailability. Well, that sounds good to me.The NatureWise lutein supplement has a lot of things going for it that I look for in a quality supplement. NatureWise is a supplement company that has been around since 2012. The supplement is made in the USA in a certified Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) facility. The lot number and expiration date are clearly stamped on the bottom of the bottle. The label has a contact phone number for NatureWise, and all ingredients are listed on the bottle in compliance with FDA regulations. There is a tamper-resistant seal under the lid that was securely fastened.The product smells fresh and clean, with an expiration date of almost 3 years from now. I haven’t experienced any digestive issues since taking this supplement. With the suggested serving of 1 soft gel a day and 120 soft gels in a bottle, this one bottle will last me 4 months.

While the label lists premium FloraGLO® Lutein, and there’s a lot number & Best By date on the bottom of the bottle, the company doesn’t publish a verifiable, batch-specific Certificate of Analysis (CoA) from an independent laboratory (like NSF or USP) to prove it. There’s no way for buyers to independently confirm the ingredients meaning you must blindly trust their data.The bottle comes safety-sealed & the capsules are easy to swallow. I haven’t noticed any side effects, but I can’t comment on any beneficial effects on my eyes.At roughly $30, it’s a bit overpriced compared to competitors on Amazon selling the same patented FloraGLO® ingredient for less. I’d suggest looking elsewhere for more transparency & lower price without relying on unverified label claims.

This is a very simple and basic vision support supplement, apparently containing only Lutein and Zeaxanthin as the active ingredients, (although I do see an undisclosed amount of lycopene listed underneath as “color”). NatureWise’s formula lacks most of the additional ingredients you often see in competing brands of eye-health products, and if you’re already taking other supplements which contain those ingredients, the omission could be a good thing (especially with zinc, which can cause nausea in larger doses) because it lets you avoid “doubling up”. If you’re NOT taking other vitamins and minerals, however, and just want one-pill-a-day AREDS formula with maximum potential health benefits, you may want to look for a more comprehensive product that includes carotenoids, antioxidants, and anti-inflammatory extracts designed to filter blue light, combat eye strain, and protect long-term retinal health. These ingredients might include zinc, copper, lycopene, vitamin E, vitamin A, vitamin D3, meso-zeaxanthin, astaxanthin, bilberry, and even curcumin. NatureWise offers their Floraglo-based softgel in a small, easy-to-swallow size, utilizing only vegan materials for the glycerin components. The product is supposedly manufactured in the USA, in a GMP certified facility, and the sellers state it is 3rd party-tested, however no batch documentation or COAs are provided, so you’d have to contact them directly to ask for testing results, if you want to verify those claims. While not a great value for the price, you do get a generous 120 day supply of these, and the expiration date is in 2029, so there’s an excellent 3 year potency window, as well.

There’s no child safety lid to fiddle with, just an easy twist off lid. The lot number and expiration date are printed on the bottom, giving me nearly 3 years to use these. A serving size is one soft gel per day and there are 120 soft gels per container. Priced at around $30, a 4 months supply is a terrific value.The little brown pills are very soft and squishy and teeny tiny. They are so small and easy to swallow that I don’t even need a drink to get them down. I haven’t had any problems with digesting them, nor have I had any unwanted side effects. I’m taking one softgel in the morning along with my regular multivitamin and a light breakfast.I’m happy to finally find a vegan option for a Lutein supplement.
