Great ingredients, but…

I really wanted to like this 12-in-1 supplement from ZENGEVITY, but, in the end, this is going to be a mixed review.What first excited me, and was the reason I ordered this supplement, is the lengthy ingredient list. I’m already taking all of those excellent ingredients on a daily basis, so points scored from the start.Looking at the cost of a 30-day supply, it seems high at first. However, considering the cost of the individual ingredients for 30 days, maybe not quite so high. I wouldn’t go so far as to call it an excellent value, but definitely a good value, so a few more points scored.The directions on the label direct the user to take it with water, and don’t mention food at all. On the web page, instructions say to take it with a meal only if preferred. Well, several of the main ingredients are highly fat soluble, so I believe this should always be taken with a meal, preferably one containing at least some fat. Minus a few points for misleading advice.Requiring three capsules for a single dose is also a negative. They could simply have made the medium-sized capsules larger and reduced the dose to two, or even to just one. As it is, the capsules are very easy to swallow, and there is no noticeable aftertaste or other side effects.My bottle was properly sealed for safety, with a good, but not great expiration date of 18 months.Finally, there was no indication of GMP certification or testing, whether independent or internal. I always look for both, so definitely points lost here. Deciding between four stars and three stars was a real struggle, but I ended up at four because of the outstanding ingredient list.

There is also 100 mg of L Theanine, which I thought was an interesting addition to a formula primarily marketed around cellular and healthy aging support.I particularly like the transparency. After reviewing enough supplements with proprietary blends, I have developed a bit of a reflex whenever I see the words “proprietary formula.” If you are asking me to put something in my body every day, I want to know what it is and how much of it is actually in there.The 90-capsule bottle is a little deceptive at first glance, though. The recommended serving is three capsules, so this is actually a 30-day supply. That’s not a criticism, but it’s something shoppers should know when comparing prices with other NAD+ products.As for the benefits, I am interested in the NAD+ and cellular energy angle, but I am not expecting to take three capsules on Monday and wake up Tuesday feeling like someone replaced my engine. The research around NAD+ precursors and healthy aging is interesting, but I think supplements like this are better viewed as a long term experiment rather than an instant energy drink.I also like that there is no caffeine or traditional stimulant approach here. The company specifically describes the formula as stimulant free, which makes sense for something intended to be part of a daily wellness routine rather than a pre workout disguised as a longevity supplement.The biggest thing that impressed me, though, is that this formula seems to understand something I’ve come to appreciate more and more: more ingredients aren’t necessarily better…but clearly disclosed ingredients are better.If you’re going to give me a multi-ingredient formula, tell me exactly what’s in it.A thoughtfully assembled NAD+ formula with a substantial 500 mg dose of nicotinamide riboside, several interesting polyphenols and L Theanine, all with the individual amounts disclosed. I like the transparency, the lack of a proprietary blend and the fact that the formula takes a broader approach than a basic NR capsule. Just remember that 90 capsules equals a 30-day supply at three capsules per day.

I like the idea behind this NAD+ supplement because it combines a number of ingredients I’m interested in for healthy aging into one formula. In addition to 500 mg of nicotinamide riboside, it contains quercetin, fisetin, resveratrol, green tea extract, L-theanine, astragalus, betaine and hyaluronic acid. I would much rather have these combined in one product than buy and keep track of several different supplements.My biggest complaint is that a full serving is three capsules. That’s a lot for me to swallow at once, and taking too many supplements can sometimes aggravate my IBS. So far, though, I seem to be tolerating these well when I take them along with my probiotics, which I’m happy about.The capsules themselves are a reasonable size, but I still wish they could provide the daily serving in two capsules rather than three. The bottle contains 90 capsules, so despite looking like a large bottle, it’s actually only a 30-day supply at the recommended dosage.Overall, I like the variety of ingredients and the convenience of getting them together in one supplement. I’m pleased that it hasn’t bothered my digestive system so far, and I’ll continue taking it to see how I feel with longer-term use.
