5-HTP is one of the components necessary for the body to produce serotonin, a neurotransmitter which is believed to improve certain health problems such as depression and insomnia. Supplementing with 5-HTP raises serotonin levels, helping to manage these issues, as well as mood, appetite, anxiety, energy levels and pain.5-HTP can relieve the pain of fibromyalgia, as it is associated with low levels of serotonin. It has also been found to mitigate migraine symptoms; also associated with low levels of serotonin.This supplement is 200 mg of 5-HTP in a vegetable capsule. It is Non-GMO,manufactured in a GMP compliant facility and third party tested. It is made in the USA.Unfortunately, this supplement also includes magnesium stearate, and/or maltodextrin, both of which, though “considered” safe, can cause significant gut and metabolism issues. Maltodextrin is used to “improve” flavor and texture. It is thought of as a benign additive, but it is not. It is known to cause blood sugar spikes, gut bacteria imbalance, allergic reactions, and weight gain. I find it ironic that supplement manufacturers add it to products in capsules. Why on earth would they need to improve taste and texture, and add a sweetener to something in a capsule?Magnesium stearate, also known as “vegetable stearate” or derivatives like “stearic acid,” is one of the most controversial additives in supplements. When taken in amounts found in dietary supplements and food sources, magnesium stearate is “likely” safe. And it is difficult to find supplements without it because it is considered necessary for manufacture. Yet some companies manage to make supplements without it. So you be the judge. I do my best to avoid it whenever I can.For this reason, I am only giving this supplement 3 stars.

Works Great!
I’ve been taking these vegetable capsules for about a week now and I noticed that I have been sleeping better and waking up less often than I did prior to taking them. This is the second product I’ve ordered from ML Naturals and I have to say, this brand makes some pretty good stuff! The first thing that I wanted to point out is that you get 240 of these Capsules in a bottle so there’s a lot of value here. You won’t have to order another bottle of these for a long time. Sometimes dietary supplements take awhile to kick in and start working for some individuals, but with a bottle this size you won’t need to really worry about that. Another thing about this product that makes it appealing is that there’s no gluten, wheat, yeast, lactose, soy, preservatives, or man-made flavors. There is a little bit of a strange smell when you open the bottle, but that’s okay! Other than that, these vegetable capsules are good quality and you get a lot of them in a bottle. Great product!

Better Sleep, Calmer Mind – Had to Cycle when Taking Methylene Blue
I’ve tried several 5-HTP supplements over the years, and I like this one as it stands out in quality and results. The capsules were fresh. It was packed in a quality container. Labeling is clear – Made in the USA, NSF certified, GMP compliant, third-party tested. This should give you confidence that it’s a legitimate, carefully thought out, well made supplement!Now the important part – Results! Yes, I noticed results after about a week of consistent use. My is better, I feel more rested, calmer. During the day, I’m better focused, feel a little sharper. Very nice.Oh, one important note: I take methylene blue, which can increase serotonin levels. Because both 5-HTP and methylene blue affect serotonin, I made sure not to take them at the same time. Instead, I cycle between them, where I 5-HTP for several days, then I switch back to methylene blue. Don’t take both at the same time. It’s important to avoid any risk of serotonin buildup or interaction. That approach works for me. You should check with your doctor if you want to take both.The capsules are a larger than many other supplements I take. There’s also a slight herb smell when you open the bottle, but it’s still easy to swallow – at least for me. I think the dose feels just right based on the results I’ve been getting.I noticed that some reviewers complained about additives like magnesium stearate, that’s widely used in most supplements today – to keeps capsules from sticking. I personally didn’t see it as an issue, but note that it’s there – if you are cautious about having additional additives in your supplement.In summary, it’s a great quality product, I can see noticeable results, better sleep and I think it’s great value for a bottle of 240. Just be cautious not to combine with other serotonin related supplements like methylene blue.

Seems like a good option if you’re looking for 5-HTP. I’ve used similar supplements in the past and this one feels about the same in terms of effect. I have SAD and this has been helpful. No side effects so far.

Clean Supplement to Support Mood
I have used 5-HTP off and on for several years to help my anxiety. I first heard about it in The Mood Cure by Julia Ross when it was a huge help for getting me off my prescription SSRI. This time around, I am using it to hopefully ease some of my perimenopausal symptoms, specifically depression and anxiety.In the past, I was taking 200mg/day in two different doses (mid-day and evening). This time, I am starting with 100mg/day in the evening (each capsule is 100mg), and I have already noticed a difference. It definitely hasn’t “cured” my anxiety (let’s be honest, probably nothing will), but it has helped me feel a little calmer, and I feel like I’ve also been sleeping more deeply since starting it. In addition to perimenopause, I’m a teacher about to start a new school year, so being calm and sleeping well is a necessity right now.Finally, I like that these are 3rd party tested and manufactured in the USA. These seem to be very clean, which I appreciate. I will continue to take these and hopefully enjoy more benefits over time.

Side effects kept me up at night
ML Naturals 5-HTP is manufactured in an unknown USA facility which is NSF certified, adheres to GMP practices, and also is 3rd party tested. So those claims sound promising.5-Hydroxytryptophan (5-HTP) creates serotonin which relaxes you and helps you fall asleep. This brand is derived from Griffonia simplicifolia seed, the preferred extract plant.I have taken another brand of 5-HTP before with no issues, although it did not seem to improve my erratic sleep. I wanted to give this brand a try as they have been around since the 1990’s and give you a large quantity for a reasonable price.For two consecutive nights I consumed 2 capsules about 1/2 hour before bedtime. To be honest I didn’t sleep well at all. The capsules didn’t seem to sit well in my stomach and I was up and down all night, mostly due to gut issues. I decided I wasn’t going to chance testing these for another night.Being that Heartburn, stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea are among the most common adverse reactions, I will assume that I was experiencing these side effects.The fact that I had no luck with better sleep taking this and another brand of 5-HTP, I will stick with my tried and true sleep aids.
