I’ve done quite a bit of research on K supplements, particularly since my first bone density test, which discovered an area of Osteopenia on my hip (a reversible prelude to Osteoarthritis). K supplements have the ability to reroute Calcium from the arteries to the bones where it should be, in order to avoid calcification within the arteries. The K’s help to utilize Calcium naturally derived from food and beverages and make it more efficient, while the addition of Vitamin D3 works in synergy, as a companion to the K’s…most notably K4 and K7 (both derived from K2). Here’s the perplexing issue: while there are many supplements that contain both D3 and the K’s, the D3 content in most supplements is often offered at a min. 5000IU, which is 1000IU above the recommended high end dosage. Why is that?!?Considering this, it’s ideal to take a D3 supplement that’s offered at a maximum of 4000IU. (Now, it’s not essential to take D3 with the K’s, but as stated prior, they do offer a nice “chemistry” when combined.) There is one very important caveat: if you are on a blood-thinner such as Wayfarin, you already know that taking K supplements and eating certain green produce should be done so with caution, so please check with your doctor, first and foremost.This MegaFood offering provides a good baseline for the K’s; if you’re in search of anything on a therapeutic level, higher mcg’s are available…check with your doctor to learn what’s right for you.
