It works!
Item received in bubble wrap packaging. All goodThe cork is a bit tough so just take your time and slowly twist it back and forth while pulling up and it will pop off. Just the first time then it’s basic. The taste is definitely ginger forward and I did get “numb tongue” from taking a 2 oz shot.It took about 30-45 mins and then I could feel the buzz for sure. It sustained for about 2 hours!I then took a 1oz shot and combined it with Sprite Zero and ice and it was a slow sipper. It sustained me with a nice buzz through the evening.Pros: buzz, no alcohol, mixes wellCons: numb tongue, ginger taste (not for me), cost

Not my cup of kava
As someone who enjoys the pleasant buzz of authentic kava on occasion, I was excited to try this. I put it off for months due to its cost, however, the good reviews kept pulling me back. I finally purchased it and yuck.Kava prepared the traditional way doesn’t taste all that great but I think the gentle buzz you get from it makes up for the taste. This, however, provides no buzz and it tastes terrible. I tried masking it with several things but the fact that they added citrus limits your options. If you want a kava buzz, my advice is to buy the traditional kind and add some cocoa powder or chocolate liquor. Citrus was not a great choice for the heavy kava taste. Adding chocolate to a citrus flavored kava drink would be horrendous. Also, just for everyone’s awareness it’s recommended you drink the bottle within 4 weeks of opening. Not difficult to do, I suppose, if there’s more than one person drinking it or if you enjoy it but frankly I’m going to have a hard time getting my money’s worth out of this investment in 4 weeks.

Too ginger forward for me
UPDATE: Since my review I tried this mixed into zero sugar lemonade and find it quite good! I would give it 4.5 now.Way too ginger forward for me. I will have to try mixing it with club soda or something. Drinking it undiluted just doesn’t work for me. I will use up what I have and most likely won’t purchase it again unless my palate becomes used to it and somehow I decide I like it.

Expensive & Didn’t Really Do it for Me
The taste was lemony exceedingly tart. Could probably be made into a good-tasting mocktail, but I didn’t have supplies on hand to do that, so I just drank it straight. It was not delicious as some reviewers have stated. It was barely palatable, frankly.I did catch a buzz, but I had to drink about half the bottle to feel anything. Then it hit me all at once. Then it was gone 10-15 min. later. I didn’t really find it relaxing, or even pleasant at any point. My reason for trying it is that I’ve heard about Kava’s effect as a GABA agonist that makes a good substitute for alcohol, that doesn’t produce toxic acetaldehyde as a metabolic byproduct. But it’s pretty far from a cost-effective way to do that and, even if I was willing to pay the asking price, it doesn’t replace the nervous system effect that I am seeking from alcohol. I wanted to like it, but I don’t.

Kava Delivered!
Kava Haven is the smoothest, easiest way I have found to enjoy the benefits of kava. Most of the powders I have tried have either minimal amounts of kava or do not disolve in my drink, leaving lumps that tast like dirt in my mouth. Kava Haven solves both issues with a herbacious flavor that I enjoy best with sparkling water. Garnished with a sprig of rosemary or mint, and it is an elegant alternative to alcohol. No hangover, inappropriate behavior, or slurred words. Just a relaxing calm.

A Unique and Relaxing Addition to Our NA DrinksA Unique and Relaxing Addition to Our NA Drinks
I’ve really been enjoying this kava drink. First off, the flavor is actually genuinely appealing, which I don’t think is always guaranteed with functional beverages like this. It’s great poured over ice on its own, but I also love mixing it with flavored sparkling water, ginger soda, or even kombucha. The flavor is versatile enough that it feels more like making a fun elevated mocktail than drinking something “healthy.”Honestly, part of the relaxation for me comes from the ritual itself. Pouring a nice non-alcoholic drink at the end of the day still scratches that same wind-down itch. I do feel calm while drinking it, though I’m personally not totally sure how much of that I can directly attribute to the kava itself versus the overall experience. My partner, on the other hand, feels VERY relaxed after drinking it and definitely notices the kava effects more strongly than I do. So I think the experience probably varies a bit person to person. One thing worth noting is there is a slight numbing sensation in your mouth when drinking it. I personally don’t mind it and actually kind of associate it with the kava experience now, but it might surprise people if they’re trying it for the first time. This has become a really fun addition to my non-alcoholic repertoire. It’s also a great thing to offer guests because people are always intrigued by it and excited to try something beyond the standard sparkling water or soda options. Definitely recommend if you’re looking to expand your NA drink options with something that feels a little more unique and intentional. Another added bonus is the bottle looks nice enough to keep out on your bar.

Complete Rip Off!Complete Rip Off!
TL;DR version: no buzz, no relaxed feeling, disgusting taste, crappy packaging, TOTAL RIP OFF!First, do not waste your money to pay for express delivery. When I placed my order, the regular delivery day was roughly two weeks, on 7/15. Because I had other Amazon orders expected on 7/8, and I was excited to try this, I spent the $13 to get it on 7/8. However, I didn’t receive it until 7/15. When I contacted the seller, they informed me that the extra cost was to guarantee when the product would arrive from the seller to the Amazon warehouse, not when I would receive it.Second, the taste is AWFUL! It tastes like how fabric softener smells. I even diluted it with Sprite and ice, but it did not help at all.Third, the packaging is poorly designed. It’s a glass bottle with a cork. Not only is the cork extremely difficult to remove from the bottle, but the top of the cork popped off so it couldn’t be removed. I have attached photos. Finally, and most importantly, NO BUZZ!!! The whole reason I spent over $50 on this crap was because it said it provides a relaxed buzz. The serving size is 1.5 ounces, and I drank 3 servings. Not only was I not buzzed, but I didn’t feel any different than before I drank.

Never add fat to KAVA! It’s a myth! It actually RUINS the KAVA!Never add fat to KAVA! It’s a myth! It actually RUINS the KAVA!
For the very best and truest “KAVA experience,” just make your own at home with micronized KAVA powder, cold water, and a blender; however, of the 4 I tried on Amazon, this was the only other one even worth rating, at a toggled 4 stars. The “KAVA JOY” by “Club 13” got 5 stars, because of all the “pre-fab” KAVA beverages I tried, it was truest to form; but again, just make your own with micronized powdered KAVA root, cold water, and a blender. Also, whatever you do, NEVER add fat to KAVA! “The KAVA Society” debunked the logical myth that added fats help kavalactones breakdown – since KAVA does itself bind to lipid fats (which is the same reason you can NOT vape KAVA.) By performing 36 unique KAVA presses, using fats of all types in 35, and just cold water in 1. They concluded that any amount of fat added to KAVA ruins the KAVA, making the beverage unbareabley bitter at just 10% fat by volume, and reducing kavalactone breakdown by as much as 20%.The cold press using just water rendered, by far, the highest kavalactone content, was numb in the mouth, with a hint of heat at the back of the throat, leaving an earthy, buttery aftertaste that wasn’t bitter at all. This is what I make at home – it’s around 70% kavalactone, with GABA added.
