It’s challenging to review supplements. Companies rightly discourage (or should discourage) reviews that cite medical benefits, because any such statements published with their product advertising are construed by the FDA as making claims of medical benefits. If you claim medical benefits, the FDA classifies your product as a drug requiring FDA approval to sell. This limits reviews of dietary supplements to rating the quality of the product, which can be difficult to assess. What I want to see in a supplement is ingredients that have solid science behind their use, ingredients are present in useful quantities and that the company manufacturing them is trustworthy. I want to see that the product is made in the USA in facilities that meet FDA-defined cGMP (current Good Manufacturing Processes). The best way a company can show me that its supplement product is safe and accurately labeled is by publishing the results of third-party testing (by a reliable tester).Healthy Origins has been around for about 30 years, so they are a well-established U.S. company. Their manufacturing processes meet my criteria of being U.S. based (some materials are from non-U.S. sources, but I think that is unavoidable). They claim their facilities are cGMP. They also claim that evidence of the results of third-party testing of purity is available “on demand”.I have taken n-acetyl cysteine (NAC) regularly for several years. There is ample evidence of its usefulness as a supplement. In fact, it is also sold as a pharmaceutical for certain specific medical applications, but not applications suitable for home treatment. The NAC supplied by Healthy Origins is in tablet form, while I prefer capsules. Tablets are more compacted than capsules, making them slower to dissolve in the GI tract and therefore harder to absorb. They can also be harder to swallow than capsules. These tablets are pretty small, so not hard to swallow. Another factor with NAC is its intrinsic odor; it smells strongly of sulfur. The odor when I opened the bottle was unmistakably that of NAC—an eye-watering punch to the nose. While all NAC is going to smell, some companies pack it with odor-absorbing sachets that definitely help reduce the odor’s impact.I appreciate the generous amount of NAC in the package and the smell makes me pretty sure that it’s really NAC! Healthy Origins has a pretty good reputation from my internet searching. However, I would prefer to have easy access to third-party testing info. Ideally, I like to be able to input the lot number of a supplement bottle on the manufacturer’s site to receive a copy of the test results. I also prefer capsules and some attempt to reduce the impact of the NAC odor.A comment on the product listing: the text on the product page says the tablets provide 1000 mcg per serving (2 tablets). This would be a very small amount. The capsules are actually 500 mg each. There are 240 tablets per bottle, but the text says “60” in some places. It also says the primary supplement type is “5-HTP”, which a completely different supplement. I recommend that the seller edit the product listing to avoid inaccuracies.

Powerful NAC (and You Can Tell by the Taste!)

This NAC supplement by Healthy Origins comes with a strong dosage per pill, solid quality, and clean formulation for supporting the body’s production of glutathione (a powerful antioxidant). The tablets are easy enough to take, but fair warning: they taste pretty bad if you let them sit on your tongue. Honestly, that’s how you know it’s the real deal. The benefits outweigh the taste, and for the price, this is an excellent way to stock up on a key antioxidant booster. I will note that the bottle that I received expires in early 2026, so you may want to consider how often you want to take this supplement to earn your money’s worth.

This is a long-lasting supply of NAC. As with any supplements it’s hard to tell speak for the effectiveness of them, but at least I haven’t had any adverse reaction. I don’t keep the pills in my mouth long enough to “taste” them, so, so far the taste is fine. As a professional performer, I always keep NAC nearby. If I have a big show and I don’t want to get sick, it seems to work to stave off colds. Overall, since this jar includes so many pills (120), I’d say it’s good value for money. The only things I don’t like are that they come in a plastic bottle (let’s face it, these are rarely recyclable in most cities), and that there are lots of fillers in the ingredient list… It’s a big bottle, and the smell is alright.
