Does nothing, tastes unimaginably bad
I tried this twice and there was no effect either time, other than brief mouth numbness.The first dose was 5/8 of a teaspoon (to come close to 150 kavalactones) in a glass of water, which tasted awful. Next day was 1 1/4 teaspoons in a double shot of decaf espresso, also awful tasting.Third day, was going to try 2 1/2 teaspoons. Was measuring it out and trying to decide whether to dilute it or just gulp it down and follow with a chaser. But then the smell nauseated me so badly I quite nearly vomited. Enough.Never again, and boy do I feel stupid for paying $80 for this garbage.

It’s also nice to see a clearly printed expiration date, which in this case is 3.5 years out.The dropper format makes it easy to measure and add to water. I appreciate the careful sourcing and continuous testing of this product.The amount of Kavalactones per serving of the extract is shown to be 50mg. While this amount is relatively low, I appreciate this transparency which allows the user to carefully monitor intake. The lot number and shelf date are clearly shown on the container (see photo).The suggested serving is 1ml or one dropper amount of the easy to take extract. The liquid has a slight herbal flavor. It can be added to juice or water.Potential users should consider medical advice to determine if this is a safe and appropriate supplement for their health regimen. There are potential side effects and contraindications with some existing conditions.I consistently experienced a headache after taking the extract and had to discontinue its use. With that in mind, I decided to try Gaia Herbs PRO Kava 50 as a way to help take the edge off during busy or stressful days.For me, it worked exactly as advertised. I noticed a calm, “settled” feeling without any grogginess or fog, which is what I was hoping for. It didn’t knock me out or alter my mood, just helped smooth things out so I could focus and unwind a bit easier. I also didn’t experience any adverse reactions, which is always something I pay attention to when trying a new supplement. The current price however is about 3 times that of similar kava supplements so something to keep in mind as it may not provide the best value for the money.I like that Gaia is transparent about their kavalactone content (50 mg per serving) and uses Noble kava, which tends to be considered the higher-quality, traditionally used form. I have been so absolutely impressed by the dozen or so products that I have tried from Gaia Herbs Pro so far, and this kava was no exception. Always pristinely presented in glass bottles and with thorough and transparent information regarding the product and company included. I appreciate that they also include a warning about the effects that it can have on the liver, which most companies do not. I feel this makes this company all the more trustworthy to me than even before.This tincture comes with a glass dropper inside, making dosing easy. Kava has a pretty potent and not pleasant taste to it so I would recommend putting this into a bit of juice if you are sensitive to strong and bitter flavors. It does have a little bit of the traditional mouth numbing effect, but it is somewhat minimal compared to others that I have tried. The effectiveness however is right up there! This really helps to take the edge off and makes life feel just a bit less serious. I feel a good sense of peace and calming when taking this, and find that it really helps to support solid sleep as well.At the current cost of $80 for 59 servings, I know this seems on the high side to some but is actually quite competitive of a value for a kava of this quality. And getting this from a company that I trust makes it absolutely worth every penny.

I’ve used kava for several years and am well aware of its strengths (calming effect) and weaknesses (severe liver damage if used improperly). This kava extract is made by a quality manufacturer with quality ingredients…basal and lateral roots sourced from Fiji and Vanautu (lateral roots are greatly preferred). Like all concentrated kava extracts, the extraction process used a solvent (ethanol) other than water, which means one must be mindful when consuming it to avoid liver damage.Attached is a picture of the warning on the label. Please read it carefully before ordering this product. I must congratulate the manufacturer for providing this information; it speaks to their ethics and transparency.The dosage is 50mg kavalactones, which is low for me but is perfect for someone that wants to try out kava. I suggest taking it as directed ONCE per day, about an hour before dinner. I also suggest taking a glutathione supplement 30-60 minutes before taking the kava to confer additional protection against liver damage. (Note that this is not necessary if you purchase dried kava root and do the extraction yourself in cold water because such extractions are safer than using ethanol/acetone/SC-CO2.)This product mixed fine with water and the taste was slightly bitter as expected. It doesn’t have the tongue-numbing effect of a more traditional stength (100-150mg kavalactones) brew, which is probably a plus for someone trying it for the first time.This gets five stars even though the dosage is low (making it a questionable value) because the manufacturer deserves an extra star for the warning on the label.
