    Surprisingly effective!

I was somewhat skeptical when reading the reviews on this product. I wanted to boost my mil supply so that I could build up a good stored supply for going back to work. I started taking this on a Friday and by Monday I noticed a significant difference when pumping. Before taking this, I would pump on average 2-3 oz each session; after taking it for a few days that jumped up to about 5-6 oz per session. The only downside is you have to take 3 pills throughout the day and there are only 60 pills per bottle. So one bottle is only good for 20 days. All in all it is definitely worth buying if you need a boost in milk production.

Works Great (with a few added tips)

The first time I took these (month 2) I just needed them to get me started and I didn’t need to take more than the 1 (60qty) bottle. Second time around (month 8), long story short I stopped pumping as regularly thinking babe was self-weaning (turns out not). Dropped 2 bra sizes and went from pumping 12oz a day in 1/2 hour to 1-3oz in an hour. The following is what I found to be true for myself while taking Lactate Support. I went from 2oz to 10oz within 20 days (and pumped nearly 6oz just this morning in 12mins!)TIPS for MAXIMIZING EFFECTS OF PILLS:1) When I finally emotionally surrendered to the fact that I may have to use formula for the babe, it alleviated a lot of stress and milk production got better.2) Drink LOTS of water. I currently drink at least 2 glasses every meal and when getting up and going to bed.3) Instructions say take between meals. Refining: I switched from taking it directly before/shortly after meals to ON AN EMPTY STOMACH as far between meals as possible.4) According to Lac. Consult., when trying to ramp up from being “dry”, DO pump 4-6x a day for 5-10 minutes even if nothing comes out. It will train your body to want to produce more. Though if you started, but stopped pumping for a long stretch of time, she did say there is a point where the boobs can’t be “revived” and retrained.5) I take 4-5 a day, depending on how much I produce.CAVEATS:1) Being over zealous and taking 6-8 pills a day to “force” production while stressing out only makes production worse. Went from building momentum of 5oz a day (after 2 week of taking pills) down to 2-3oz with nearly 1 hour’s pumping (3rd week in). More pills than recommended does NOT necessarily equal accumulatively more milk production.2) The stress/desperation/guilt I felt really affected my whole being/body.I also wonder if my stash might be old. The liquid is no longer fluid in my capsules. Could old stock be a factor in the pills not working their best??Good luck, Mamas!

A little boost, and a lot of gas…

I’ve been taking Fenugreek daily since about 2 weeks after my son was born. I decided to try Gaia Herbs Lactate Support in hopes of getting a bigger boost in milk production, primarily to help with pumping since I work full time.I give the product three stars because I did seem to get an initial boost in milk production – about 1-1.5 additional ounces per day, which I was happy with. However, after using this supplement for about 2 weeks, I started to develop really painful gas, and so did my little guy. I wasn’t totally sure if it was the Lactate Support causing the gas, so I stopped taking it for a few days. The gas went away. As a test, I took Lactate Support again and within 48 hours, the gas was back. I am sure it won’t have this effect on everyone, however, since each person tends to respond to herbs differently. For me, personally, however, an extra ounce of milk per day was not worth the discomfort for myself and my baby.Pros:* Slight increase in milk production over taking plain Fenugreek.* Does not have a strong smell/taste (like Fenugreek). For people bothered by the Fenugreek smell, this is a bonus (doesn’t bother me, though).Cons:* Painful gas for me and the baby.* More expensive than Fenugreek alone.Would I buy again? No. Would I recommend to a friend? I would probably talk about this product along with plain Fenugreek and would share my experience. If not for the gas pain, I would be pretty happy with this supplement, so I probably would still spread the word about it, just with my own cautionary tale.

Fenugreek and Blessed Thistle as individual supplements work- this DID NOT

I really wanted this supplement to work, but it did not work for me. Before trying this supplement, I was taking fenugreek and blessed thistle as separate supplements each of them 3 pills 3 times a day per the suggestion of my nurse midwife and lactation consultant. Taking these two worked for me and I noticed an increase in production within a few days. But, it was a lot of pills daily- 18 just from these supplements (and I also take a multivitamin and fish oil pill every day).Even though this supplement cost more, the benefit of taking 3 pills a day compared to 18 was worth a try for me. I started taking this supplement as directed on the bottle (1 cap 3 times a day) with no success so I increased the dose (on my own accord) to 3 pills 3 times a day. This increased the cost of the supplement further but was still half as many pills as my other regimen. Still, even with 9 pills a day it failed to have any affect for me.Side note- there are other galactagogue herbs available. It’s possible this supplement works for other people. Interestingly I noticed a decrease in my production when I was taking the fenugreek without blessed thistle. I’m not sure if this means for me the blessed thistle alone would work because I have not tried it alone.

Only thing that worked for me!

Short story: they worked! Try them! No stomach pains or gas for me or my baby! :)Long story for mommies that may be in my same situation: I breastfed my baby exclusively from the time he was born until his two month old check up. He was born in the 20% percentile (at 38weeks) and dropped to the 11% by the time of his first month check up. Pediatrician didn’t seem concerned so we continued breastfeeding on demand. By the time his two month check up came along, baby had dropped to the 2% and I felt horrible and full of guilt of not being enough for my baby, so she sent me away with a couple boxes of formula to start supplementing. The next day I saw a lactation consultant who helped evaluate latch and checked his weight before and after a feeding. Hi was only taking about 2 ounces per feeding. Since he was feeding around 10 times a day, we assumed he was roughly taking in 20oz a day when he should have been taking in around 30oz a day according to his age. So I left empowered and determined to pump my milk out so that I could measure and make sure he did take his 30oz a day. I started pumping after every feeding to signal my body to keep up with his bottle feedings but couldn’t pump more than 17 to 20oz. I was burned out after about a week of not seeing an increase even though I was pumping every 2-3 hours day and night AND feeding him a bottle which left me with about an hour to 2 hours sleep. I was miserable and he started sleeping longer stretches because I would supplement with formula at night and could not find my self to wake up to pump when he was sound asleep. So I kept pumping every 2-3 hours during the day (for at least 20 minutes or five minutes past the last drop), making sure I pumped between 1-3am, power pumping at 7am and 7pm, ate oatmeal everyday for breakfast, drank an oatmeal lactation smoothie a day, chugged water like a maniac, tried fenugreek for around 10 days but nothing worked to get me past pumping 20oz a day. I finally gave up and subscribed to similac for supplementation but decided to read some more reviews and try one more thing. This was that one more thing and the reason for my lengthy review. After just one day of taking 3 pills a day on an empty stomach I finally pumped 21.5 oz in one day! I know it is way too early to be this excited about this pills working and that and ounce and a half is not that much. But at least I feel unstuck and hopeful that I will soon come back to update this review to say that I made it to my 30oz a day (and then some) and back to only feeding him breastmilk 🙂

Effective, gentle, and a must-have for nursing moms

I started using Gaia Herbs Lactation Support a few weeks into breastfeeding and saw a noticeable boost in my milk supply within a few days. The blend of organic herbs like fenugreek, fennel, and raspberry leaf feels thoughtfully balanced. The capsules have a mild herbal smell and taste slightly earthy if they touch your tongue — but nothing overpowering or unpleasant. They’re easy to take, and I didn’t experience any digestive side effects. I also appreciate that the product is vegan, gluten-free, and free from artificial fillers. For the quality and results, it’s excellent value for money. A must-have for any breastfeeding mom looking for a natural supply boost!
