A convenient combination of lactase and probiotics
These lactose pills from DocDigest are pretty good. I’ve never seen a lactose pill quite like this before, with pre and probiotics included for added gut health benefits. I like that there’s an addition of pre and probiotics which are something that are always good to take on a daily basis, and it’s convenient that they’re included in the lactose pill, since I eat dairy on a daily (and often multiple times a day) basis.This comes with 9000 ALU of lactase, which is a fairly standard amount in most lactase pills. For me, 9000 tends to be too low to prevent symptoms from popping up, though the bottle does state that you can take 2 as needed. I’ve used these for a few different types of dairy laden meals and it’s worked just fine to prevent any stomach upset. These pills are significantly larger than normal lactose pills, but are about the same size as a typical probiotic pill would be, but you should bear that in mind if you have difficulty swallowing larger pills. They have no discernable taste and I was able to swallow them just fine.One thing to be wary of is that most people (myself included) use lactose pills multiple times a day. Since these include probiotics, it means you’re taking probiotics multiple times a day, with one pill being 4B CFU. If I’m using 2 pills each time, and do that two or three times in a day, I’m consuming 16-24B CFUs per day. A little research shows this amount is higher than what I’d technically need in a day, though isn’t enough to be harmful. But too many probiotics can cause digestive symptoms like gas and bloating, which are the kind of symptoms I’m trying to avoid by taking lactose pills. To me, I’d probably use these once a day for the probiotic benefit, but would still need to have other lactose pills on hand around the house for any other meals I consume to avoid going overboard on the probiotics.Price wise, they’re not bad considering these act as both lactose pills and probiotics, both of which tend to be expensive. Name brand lactose pills can range from 20-30 cents per pill and probiotic pills can be 50-80 cents per pill (though typically for significantly higher CFUs). So these at 50 cents per pill (or even less on coupon price), it’s a reasonable price point to be able to fulfill both your lactose and some of your probiotic needs.

Great product for the lactose intolerant
I became lactose intolerant when I was pregnant many years ago, and I am still that way. I never drink regular milk. I always use lactose- free milk for myself. If I am going to have a dish of ice cream or something with a lot of lactose, I take a lactase enzyme supplement right before consuming the product. This lactose digestion supplement by DocDigest contains the same amount of lactase enzyme as the brand-name product that I usually take. But in addition, it contains lactobacillus and partially hydrolyzed guar gum prebiotic. I know that lactobacillus is good for digestion but I never heard of partially hydrolyzed guar gum probiotic. I looked it up and found that it is made from the guar plant, and that it has many health benefits, including that it promotes increased levels of lactobacillus in the gut. The directions for this product say to take one capsule with the first bite of dairy, two if needed. If you continue to consume dairy after 30 minutes, such as a super large ice cream sundae, take an additional capsule. There are 60 capsules in this white plastic bottle, and they should last a long time unless you eat something containing lactose frequently. This is not something that you have to take every day.The white plastic bottle has a wide top, which makes it easier to remove the capsules. There is a cellophane seal over the lid, and another seal under the lid. There is a desiccant pack inside to remove moisture. Each capsule is about 7/8 inch long and is rather skinny. They are very easy to swallow. The bottle is filled up almost to the top, so there is not a lot of wasted space and the bottle is not excessively big. The label says that this product is shelf stable and no refrigeration is needed. They are non-GMO, vegan, gluten-free, dairy free, and GMP lab certified. Unfortunately, it does not tell us where this product is made.To test this product, I bravely made myself a large glass of chocolate milk with regular milk containing lactose. I took one of these capsules and then drank the whole glass of milk. Two hours later, I am feeling fine with absolutely no negative effects from the lactose. This is not always what happens when I take my regular supplement. I believe that the addition of lactobacillus and the guar prebiotic has made a difference. From now on, I will be taking this lactase enzyme supplement instead of the one that I usually take.

I ordered the DocDigest by Design Lactase Enzyme + Probiotic. The product arrived in a jar with the top shrink wrapped onto the bottle and a foil seal under the cap. I appreciate when sellers double up on tamper proofing to ensure the product reaches me in the best possible condition. There was no clear country of origin on the label so I contacted the maker and was told this item is made in the US. I wish companies would put this information in the listing and the label (even if not necessary if made in the US). The pill is an easy to swallow size with no appreciable taste or smell. The capsule is super easy to use. I did not get any digestive upset after taking this pill. I did have dairy after and that sometimes does cause me upset so I would call this effective. At just under $30 this pill ends up being about fifty cents a treatment. When compared to other solutions this is pretty pricy and a poor value however this pill does contain other active ingredients over just a lactase enzyme which should help gut health overall so I am happy tying this for awhile to see if the premium price is actually a fair value.I am pleased with this product. I like that it is made in the US, easy to use and effective for me.
