A wee bit fishy, but manageable. Overall good DHA supplement.
The Carlyle Prenatal DHA vitamins are an overall 4 stars. They do what they’re supposed to do, but they are definitely fishy.The bottle seems to be a great value. With 180 softgels, it lasts a long time whether you’re taking it before, during, or after pregnancy. I personally am not pregnant, but needed a good DHA supplement for myself and my spouse. The capsules themselves are a manageable size and easy to swallow, which is a big deal if you’re already dealing with nausea or sensitivity.I appreciate that it’s a straightforward formula focused on DHA support, and that it’s labeled non-GMO and gluten free.That said, the biggest drawback is the fishy aspect. There is definitely a noticeable fishy smell when you open the bottle and an occasional aftertaste. The aftertaste is not every single time, but often enough that it stands out. It’s not the worst DHA I’ve taken smell wise, but if you’re sensitive to smells, especially during pregnancy, this could be a challenge. Great Prenatal DHA Supplement for Pregnancy & Postpartum
I used these Prenatal DHA vitamins during my pregnancy and part of my postpartum journey. They come in a good quantity for the price and were easy to include in my daily routine. I also liked that they had no smell or taste, which was very important to me during pregnancy. DHA is important for baby’s development, and sometimes we don’t get all the nutrients our body needs from food alone, so supplementation can really help. Easy to swallow pills with no fishy taste.
I can not speak in the effectiveness of the vitamin because that takes time, but I can say that taking them daily does not feel like a chore because the pills are easy to swallow and the odor is not strong. They do have a slightly fishy scent but it is not bothersome for me. I noticed someone said they don’t get fishy burps. I do, but it’s only once. I take it with my coffee in the morning and usually am empty stomach so maybe taking it with coffee and food will help with the fishy burp. I’ll try it. It’s not bothersome for me but if I can not have it at all that will be good. There is no taste to the pills for me. I don’t let them linger in my mouth. I just pop them in and swallow with coffee immediately. As I said, I can’t speak on the effectiveness and I also can’t speak on the value because I’ve not seen a difference, BUT I do know that because the pills are so easy to swallow I WILL FINISH the entire bottle.

This bottle of Prenatal DHA Fish Oil soft-gels from Carlyle arrived as shown in the listing here. The bottle contains 180 soft-gels. The suggested use is to take 2 soft-gels daily, preferably with a meal. Upon opening the jar of soft-gels, there is a noticeable odor of fish. Each 2 softgel serving contains 1190mg of Purified Fish Oil that provides 500mg DHA and 114mg EPA Omega-3 Fatty Acids per serving.The soft-gels are smaller than most other fish-oil capsules I’ve encountered and that they are easy to swallow. The soft-gels also digest well, I didn’t encounter fishy burps or anything, though I did consume them with a meal, as was mentioned in the directions. I don’t notice anything too specific in the ingredients to make this strictly a Prenatal formula, other than it has a larger proportion of DHA to EPA. Something I didn’t like, is that though the label mentions that this Fish Oil consists of, “Ethically Sourced Ingredients” and has a GMP stamp, there is no mention as to where this fish oil is sourced from. The only thing the bottle’s label mentions is, “Packaged & Lab Tested in the USA”. That is something I’d like to have seen mentioned on the label, where the fish oil is sourced from.

Effective ingredients but OVERPOWERING fish smell and taste.
This prenatal 1190mg fish oil supplement provides the recommended Omega-3, DHA, and EPA in two gelatin tablets. However, it will not do your body much good if you can’t stomach taking these supplements. The fish smell and taste is so overpowering and strong that I can rarely take these without puking.I like the size of the pills, they are smaller than other omega supplements I have used and are much easier to swallow. However, these tablets are “quick release” which means a thinner gelatin casing and an increased chance of the capsule busting in your mouth and throat. I am not sure why fish oil needs to be “quick release”. I feel like they would be just as effective if the casing was slightly thicker and dissolved slower. This would decrease the chance of it bursting open while you are in the middle of taking them.This product is a 90 day supply and includes 180 soft gel tablets. I still think the current 18 bucks is a great value for a 90 day supply and for the quality of ingredients used in this supplement. If you can stomach the fish smell and taste then these are a great option. However, if the smell of fish makes you gag then I am warning you now… this is not for you.
