New version is a big disappointment
I was using Benecol with the prior formulation for the past year, and it seemed to be very effective in bringing down my LDL. It was easy to take, and always seemed like a little bit of dessert. However, the new formulation was a most unfortunate decision by the manufacturer. I don’t know what they were trying to accomplish (probably saving money) but they took a great product and made it one that I”m not sure I can continue taking. The taste is very plastic/rubbery now, so it will be an unpleasant experience to take, instead of one to enjoy. The new texture is not as good, and the fact that you need 5 a day instead of 4 are both also unfortunate. I may have to look for another source of plant stanols. Sad. I hope with enough negative reviews they will go back to the old formulation. I’d rather pay a few dollars more a month and get a good product. I have to wonder if they did any consumer testing for this new version.

Bad Taste
These taste bad. I had been taking the earlier version for a couple of years and they were enjoyable and they lowered my cholesterol. Now there are fewer in a bag, they are smaller, and they taste MUCH worse. The new carmel version is better but still too expensive considering you only get enough for 20 days now instead of 30 days.

The DO work, however like others have said the formula has changed and tastes different. You need to take 5 instead of 4 per day. And they reduced the amount you get in the bag. And raised the price. Not cool.

Noticeable Difference in My Cholesterol
I’ve been using these Benecol soft chews consistently for a few months, and my latest cholesterol results showed a reduction of about 40 points. Obviously, I can’t say the change was entirely due to the product since diet and other factors can affect cholesterol, but the timing was encouraging.The new soft-chew format is also much easier to take than something I have to mix into food or remember to prepare. The texture is reasonably soft, and the flavor makes it easy to take regularly. For me, the biggest advantage has been having a convenient way to incorporate plant stanols into my routine while tracking whether they make a measurable difference over time.

these REALLY work
I have to admit, I was a bit skeptical about how effective these chews would be. I read studies and I thought I would take them for 6 months before my yearly blood test. I am not able take statins because I am drug sensitive so I normally take the most holistic route I can. I did also focus on diet and exercise as well. To my surprise, I went from a 320 total cholesterol to 240…80 point reduction! I was shocked. Now that I know this works I will keep using them and hopefully I will even be about to reduce it even more. If you were thinking of taking these….do it!

I know I’m seeing a lot of complaints about the smaller bag size and the change in taste of the Benecol chews, but honestly, I still think this product is awesome, effective and they still taste good!My brother actually reached out to the company after being disappointed by the same changes. The owner personally responded and explained that the previous manufacturer had been giving them a lot of issues, and he was essentially forced to make a change. He said he had very limited options for production and this was the best option he had to keep the product available.My brother was so impressed that the owner took the time to personally explain the situation and be transparent about what happened. His response was basically, “Okay, you have my business.” He now has mine too!I think it’s worth giving the new version a chance. The product is still great, and I really appreciate a company owner who actually takes the time to listen and respond to customers!

Taste is fine, but 33% less product than beforeTaste is fine, but 33% less product than before
The active ingredients themselves seem effective, and the form factor is pleasant and easy to consume, so I actually think this is still a good product overall. However, the problem now, is bad value for money.I don’t mind the taste of the new formula. It’s fine. I could be happy with either one, and in some ways I maybe even slightly prefer the new taste.That’s NOT the problem. The problem is they went from a 4 chew serving size to a 5 chew serving size in order to get the same dosage, AND simultaneously reduced the count per bag from 120 to 100. That’s 1/3 less product. If you’re going to give me 33% less value, that should translate into an equivalent reduction in price. It didn’t, so this is basically double shrinkflation (reduced count, and reduced potency at the same time) to a large degree.I won’t crusade for “bring back the old product,” but rather, would urge the manufacturer to understand that customers are intelligent enough to understand such a significant reduction in value.
