I usually am pretty skeptical when it comes to these types of supplements but a girlfriend of mine highly recommend that I give this product a try. I suffer from depression, anxiety and PTSD. I do not like to use medications though because of the side effects I get from them such as feeling numb to any and all emotions and just being very lethargic and zombie like. I prefer to take a more natural approach to treating my health issues. I really had nothing to lose with trying these pills out. I had low expectations to be honest. After taking 5-HTP for 4 days, my life improved. Something I’ve needed for decades
Immediate improvement in the way I feel about myself from 5HTP. I also feel more aware and able to explain myself around other people. These dry capsules work immediately and last all day. Someone said they don’t like the feeling of skipping a pill. For me I was thinking that maybe I should be on 50mg instead 2x/day. I stopped taking this supplement after a few days of feeling remarkably better. Also 5HTP works like a switch in your brain telling you when to stop eating and making you stop eating. I do not understand my mother who is a millionaire telling me she doesnt want to take supplements due to the cost.I was explaining that it works out to 5 cents a day and one bottle can last 4 months. 1st week review
I’ve only used this product over the past three consecutive days. I bought it primarily for its purported mood-boosting qualities. The manufacturer suggests that you take one pill/day for the first two weeks, which I’ve followed.The next morning, upon awakening, I clearly felt better. Am I saying that the results worked overnight? That’s exactly what I’m saying. Of course, this is my personal experience using the suggested protocol and dosage.*Secondly, I slept like a rock–all three nights.Finally, I read one review that stated he/she had some difficulty getting up out of bed in the morning. Me, too. A bit groggy, but I get up M-F at 4:30am. (More of a discipline thing vs. a “need to” thing.)In short, HIGHLY recommended. At $20/bottle, you have little to lose (except $20 if it doesn’t work for you). On the other hand, if you’re feeling blue or depressed and/or your sleeping habits are less-than-ideal, I would go for it.* I strongly believe in the old saying, “The dosage makes the poison.” If you are under-dosing, up your dosage slightly. If you are over-dosing and feeling ANY negative effects, trim back the dosage. Think of this philosophy in this way: in front of you are two quantities of wine. One quantity of wine is in a tiny thimble. The other quantity is an entire bottle of wine. YOUR limit is somewhere in-between a thimble and a bottle. If you enjoy wine, then it is your personal and social responsibility to find where your limit lies. If you over-drink, you will suffer the consequences. Find your personal limit and DON’T exceed it. Wine is neither good nor bad, but you MUST FIND YOUR LIMIT and stay under your limit our you will suffer the consequences.

Seriously – the Best sleep I’ve had in over a decade
After having 4 kids in 8 years, you get in this habit of being awake, frequently, at night. Habit or nature? I have no idea. Also, sometimes I have trouble turning my own brain off to fall asleep. In the past, I tried prescription Ambien, but only a few because they were a sleep aid from my doctor during the last few weeks of pregnancy. They are habit forming, so she didn’t keep me on them. I’ve tried night time teas. Those aren’t bad – but am I the only one that has to go to the bathroom if I drink tea? Not conducive to “staying asleep”. I’ve tried benadryl. It’s not too bad, but you get a groggy feel in the morning that’s hard to come out of. Aleve PM isn’t too bad. I don’t know about taking a pain reliever when I don’t need one.My doctor asked if I had tried melatonin and I have. It actually had an odd effect on my deep sleep and I didn’t care for it. (Man, I’m complaining in this post – sorry guys!) She mentioned 5-HTP. I researched it and tried it.My Reaction: ( I take 1 pill 10-15 min before bed)- It doesn’t seem to make you sleepy like you are expecting. It’s weird. It’s not like taking a Benadryl or drinking alcohol where you just start getting droopy eyes. It’s much more subtle. You just start migrating towards bed.- If you find you can’t seem to shut your brain off, you may start out in bed wide awake, thinking about the day. Out of nowhere, you’ll start semi-dreaming. Sometimes you realize you really weren’t driving your own thoughts anymore. It’s kind of a pre-cursor to sleep coming on and you actually sense when you are about to shut down.- If I wake in the night, my brain doesn’t “come online”. I just go to the bathroom and then go right back to bed and sleep. I am able to shut back down and it doesn’t take hours anymore. More like a couple of minutes.- Although I don’t wake “groggy”, I find that I am capable of sleeping for longer periods if I choose to. It’s weird that you lose the ability to sleep in. This gives it back. You actually can “catch up” on sleep if you want to. If you can’t sleep in, you just wake up and start the day like normal You don’t feel like you have medicine head. If I feel anything, it doesn’t last beyond about 3-5 minutes. So I’m not complaining.- I don’t really notice much of a mood change. Maybe it’s there. But I homeschool 4 kids 8 and under so….it’s an adventure. A funny, noisy, sometimes sticky adventure. Sensory overload just kind of goes with it.Hope this helps others. Basically it’s a subtle effective sleep aid and my doctor says its safe to use.

One Day And I’m Already Convinced
Before taking this supplement for the first time, my mind was haunted by deeply negative thoughts. My self-esteem was at its lowest point, I had constant mood swings, severe anxiety for no reason, major symptoms of depression, feelings of hopelessness, and the list goes on from there. Prior to trying this supplement, I dabbled into some other “substances” which were serotonin inhibitors, and I noticed that every time I took those substances, those symptoms I had mentioned prior would fade. These substances in question were things I could not do everyday though, definitely not good for me. So, I turned to this, and let me tell you, it has done everything those other substances had done and more. I don’t necessarily feel “happy” all the time, as one may expect if you are not familiar with serotonin works, but rather, I feel stable. No more mood swings. Self-esteem seems pretty regular. I feel more awake, and I have the ability now to laugh, smile, and genuinely be happy without having to fake it. Sometimes I’ll have a negative thought enter my head, but rather than having it turn into a non-stop influx of negative thoughts, I can easily dismiss it. And I mean easily too, I don’t even give those thoughts any time of day. This has all been observed for me on day one of taking this supplement. I am in awe at how well it has worked, I would not be writing this review right now if I wasn’t absolutely taken aback by how profoundly this has impacted me. Day one of taking this thing and I feel like a new man. I really don’t know what else I can say, but honestly, I’d like to thank Arazo Nutrition for making such a great product. Dr recommended for Postpartum
I have a now 21 month old and shared with my dr that I have start getting nasty mood swings about a week- 2 weeks before my period, my sweet husband was the one that received my harshness. My sleep was rough, I’d get up several times a night. My dr recommended 5HTP along with some other supplements (melatonin, vitamin b, and light exercise) two weeks before my period start date and continue a couple days into the cycle. I have defiantly notice a change in my mood! What bothered me before, that dug under my skin and made my want to scream, like dishes not done the night before (I hate bugs) or laundry piling up and the pressure to get it done, if I could explain it I’d say, I can take a step back, turn my mind off, focus on what I need to do right now (which is usually my kid) and tackle the, I will call them, chores later. This may seem like a rant but I am also not cursing my husband every time I see, mostly, his dirty laundry piling up. Sleep is ok, some days are better than others, I only get up two times now like clock-work, bathroom. But my mood was my goal and it is working very well. Thank you!

Review after 2 years of use
Nov 30, 2022I decided to take Natrol 5HTP (bought from Costco) which was $22 for 150 pills at 100mg each. This fixed all the issues I had with this brand. The effects were even and you notice a calming energy that last throughout the day.October 27, 2022I felt severe fatigue for the past 3 days along with strong withdrawal effect. I do believe this was triggered by large amounts of cortisol, which is documented can cause opposite effect for 5HTP. I tried Natrol time released edition of 5htp to see if it is caused by the short half life(5-7hrs). And next day, all of the exhaustion went away. I would ONLY recommend 5HTP to be a time released med to be taken along with B6, calcium, and magnesium to enhance the effects.Oct 24, 2022 Updated ReviewMuch like anything that alters your neurotransmitters, you really want to be very careful stepping up or down on 5HTP. It is a mirrored effect of benefits: helps sleep; withdrawal causes insomnia, aids anxiety; withdrawal trigger panic attacks..etc. People who are familiar with psychiatric drugs should treat this as a milder version. I can see the benefit of using this to withdrawal from stronger psychiatric meds of the benzo family or harder SSRIs.Half life of 5HTP is very short only a few hours so the best way to take this is to take an extended release edition or take it at various times throughout the day (morning and night). For this reason, I’m removing a star because after a while, you start noticing cyclical behaviors and mood drops.You also want to be very careful when you are under extreme stress because 5HTP can have the opposite effect when your cortisol levels are extremely elevated. You would experience symptoms such as increased anxiety, insomnia, and fatigue. This happened to me after 2 years and I could not figure out why until I stopped 5HTP.Original Review:Let me start off by saying that I was exceedingly dubious about nutraceuticals as the industry hasn’t been regulated by the FDA. I still think the majority of the industry is placebo sugar pills but 5htp has indeed shown clinical benefits in various studies. I’ve also benefited substantially from my own experience. This past year, 2020, had been tumultuous to say the least and pushed me to the edge. This what made me explore alternative options. I’ve been on this particular brand of 5HTP for about 3 months. I am reluctant to change brands due to the quality variability between brands.Background:I’ve taken pretty much every single kind of SNRI and SSRI out there. 5htp has similar benefits to SSRI’s ability to help with anxiety and SNRI’s (ie buprobion) issues with weight loss and depression. A word of caution: do not stop taking this suddenly or take only 1 tablet. If you only take 1 tablet, you will not notice benefits. If you stop immediately, it will mess with your brain chemistry and you will start having those similar cold turkey side effects seen with SSRIs. This happened to me when I forgot a day.Weight Loss:If you are taking this for weight loss you’d have to take a lot more than the recommended dosage to see any benefits. I take 2 a day right before sleep and noticed my appetite has actually increased due to diminishing anxiety.Insomnia:I noticed significant benefit on the first week of taking this. I used to wake up constantly throughout the night but that stopped. Now, I sleep through the night but still have a hard time going to sleep. My insomnia is pretty severe and not even SSRIs helped. The only drug that really works for my insomnia are the benzos or other controlled substances such as ambien. Unfortunately, benzos has some of the worst withdrawal effects Ive ever encountered. I would sooner deal with the insomnia than use them ever again. I will say 5htp has helped reduce insomnia but has not completely eliminated it. Cultivating a healthy sleep routine would be far more beneficial.Anxiety:5htp’s main benefit is anxiety. It is helpful in leveling your daily mood. My biggest problem is anxiety. Since the pandemic started, my anxiety was so awful, I developed two stomach ulcers. Pretty much nothing made the stomach ulcers heal because of the underlining anxiety. I started taking 5htp and it leveled my anxiety and had no more stomach pains whatsoever.Depression:It helps substantially with my anxiety and therefore helped my depression too. For very severe depression (ie MDD) or panic attacks, 5htp doesn’t really do much. If you take it everyday, it would help reduce panic episodes. I would say 5htp helps anxiety far more than depression.
